COVID-19 Precautions at Mass Update

As announced last week, this Saturday, June 12, at the 5pm Mass only, there will be some seating sections in the church designated as face covering optional. These will be sections 5 through 8 which are the ones to the left if you are looking from the music area towards the altar. Face coverings will continue to be required for those seated in sections 1 through 4. Ushers will assist with seating as needed. All sections will continue to have every other pew blocked off. Face coverings will continue to be required for all other Masses.

We'll try this out for the next two weekends before making further changes, including the possibility of having face covering optional seating at other Masses.

We ask that all follow the CDC recommendations, that anyone over the age of two who is not fully vaccinated continue to wear a face covering when indoors and gathered together with others outside of one's household.

Thank you for your continued patience and cooperation as we try to accommodate and care for all of our parishioners as much as possible.

Please welcome a new visiting Jesuit

Dear St. Raphael community,

Great news! We’ll have a visiting Jesuit at St. Raphael beginning this weekend. I’m thrilled to announce that our Jesuit Provincial, Fr. Joseph O’Keefe, SJ, has temporarily assigned Fr. Tom Simisky, SJ to St. Raphael. Fr. Simisky will begin his service to our parish on June 12 and, at this time, the Province is unsure how long he’ll be here.

Fr. Simisky is completing his Jesuit tertianship and has been missioned to Tomsk, Russia but he’s awaiting his visa. It’s unclear how long he’ll have to wait, and once he’s formally “invited” by the Russian government, it will take another 30 days before he’ll be able to travel there. While he’s at St. Raphael, Fr. Simisky will be serving as a Parochial Vicar. Fr. Simisky speaks both Russian and Spanish and will be helping with English and Spanish Masses and liturgical events.

I also want to note that Fr. Simisky’s assignment to St. Raphael is independent of Fr. O'Keefe’s ongoing search for a permanent Parochial Vicar for St. Raphael.

Mass of Remembrance and Recollection: Join us at 7 pm on Tuesday June 15 for a Mass of Remembrance and Recollection in English in the church. This Mass will have special readings, prayers, and music to help us to process the past fifteen months of disruption, remember what we've lost, acknowledge unexpected blessings, ask for grace for ourselves and our community moving forward, and recognize that Jesus has been by our side throughout this difficult time. After Mass we will continue with a Holy Hour of Adoration with more music, prayer, and guided meditation, concluding with Benediction at 8:45pm. The Mass and time of Adoration will be livestreamed.

Spiritual Adoption: Four months: At four months, about eighteen weeks, the baby is 5 1/2 inches long and weighs about 5 ounces. Since most of the development occurs before eight weeks, very little change occurs, except the baby gets "prettier" as time goes on. The baby is very active and still has room to move about. She frowns squints, hiccups, stretches and sucks her thumb. He hears Mom's voice and comes to recognize it. A sonogram should tell if it's a boy or girl about now. Mom should start feeling little flutters soon now. Experienced Moms usually recognize the baby's bumps earlier.

Cristo Rey Research Triangle High School is still accepting applications for Fall of 2021! Cristo Rey Research Triangle is a Jesuit college and career preparatory high school in the Catholic tradition for students with limited economic resources. We are unique! Our students integrate a rigorous academic curriculum with four years of professional work experience and support to and through college. St. Thomas More Academy Theater is back! Their 2020 spring musical BRIGHT STAR will be performed outdoors nightly at 8 pm from June 12-17. The performance, written and composed by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell, tells the story of love lost and found in 1940’s North Carolina. Actualización de las precauciones de COVID-19 en la Misa.

Como se anunció la semana pasada, este sábado 12 de junio, en la Misa de las 5 pm, habrá algunas secciones de asientos en la iglesia designadas como cobertura facial opcional. Estas serán las secciones 5 a 8 que son las que están a la izquierda si está mirando desde el área de música hacia el altar. Los que estén sentados en las secciones 1 a 4 seguirán siendo necesarios que cubran la cara. Los ujieres ayudarán a sentarse según sea necesario. ¡Buenas noticias! Tendremos un jesuita de visita en San Rafael a partir de este fin de semana. Me complace anunciar que nuestro provincial jesuita, el Padre Joseph O'Keefe, S.J., ha asignado temporalmente al Padre Tom Simisky, S.J. a San Rafael. El Padre Simisky comenzará su servicio en nuestra parroquia el 12 de junio, en este momento, la Provincia no está segura de cuánto tiempo estará aquí.

El Padre Simisky está completando su terciario jesuita y ha sido enviado en misión a Tomsk, Rusia, pero está esperando su visa. Misa de recuerdo y recogimiento: Este jueves 17 de junio a las 7 pm, celebraremos una Misa especial de recuerdo y recogimiento en español en la iglesia y transmisión en vivo. Esta Misa tendrá lecturas especiales, oraciones y música para ayudarnos a procesar los últimos quince meses de Confusión, recordando lo que hemos perdido, reconociendo bendiciones inesperadas, pidiendo gracia para nosotros y nuestra comunidad en el futuro, y reconociendo que Jesús ha estado a nuestro lado durante este difícil momento.
