While living in Japan the past year, Michael and David have visited several unique places and love to share their knowledge and appreciation of Japanese culture with us. They recently visited Yokotaen Tea Farm in Sayama, Saitama Prefecture, about 1.5 hours west of Tokyo.
For 150 years, the Yokota family has been producing high-quality tea in an area that boasts loamy soil with high moisture retention. Despite many tea farms being pushed out by urban developments, Yokotaen Tea Farm has remained vibrant under the direction of several generations of successors. Using every inch of the small 5.5-acre farm, the 5th and 6th generation of family are always creating new products that meet customers’ needs, especially tea products that have healthful benefits.
Learn the basic categories of tea based on the method of processing, and then visit the Yokotaen tea farm with Michael and David. Meet the Yokota family, including the grandfather, as they proudly show us their incredible farm and machinery.
Put on a pot of water and get your tea ready for a quick visit to Japan!
