St David's Minister's Missive

Dear St David's Church Family💒

It is good to be back after a wonderful break and relaxing time at home and then in Hobart. I am looking forward to being with you all again on Sunday. Many thanks to Judith and Jenny who led and preached last week. The feedback has been fabulous!

This Sunday is the second Sunday after Pentecost and we move into ordinary time and the liturgical colour is green. This Sunday is also our communion Sunday and we will be celebrating with bread (and gluten free option) and grape juice (unless the COVID situation changes between now and then).

You will find the liturgy for the service here...

Pentecost 2 Yr B 6th June 2021

Here are the things that I would like to pass on to you this week:

Thank you to everyone for your warm birthday wishes and gifts. I deeply appreciate your love and thoughts (and the fabulous 'birthday girl' sash with the flashing lights!). 😊

Meetings with Tui - Tui, our student placement, is now on his 4th Sunday with us. He is spending some time being present with us and he would very much like to arrange times to meet with some of us to hear our stories and learn a little about St David's and our amazing history. This is entirely optional, but if you have not yet been asked and would like to meet up with Tui, please have a chat with him on Sunday.

Kindness Cupboard - our Kindness Cupboard is looking very bare (which is a good sign as people are using it) and is in urgent need of re-stocking! Please leave your donations in the cupboard and if you would like an idea of what to put in there, please let me know.

Inner West for Refugees is holding a fundraiser on Tuesday 15th June - more details are here;

A fundraiser to support refugees to rebuild their lives after recently being released from detention after 8 years on Nauru. Join us for a night of conversation, food, wine, music and art.Featuring conversations with the refugees themselves, art for sale from Sydney artists Angus Fisher, George Hall and Aimee Fitzgerald, live music by Lola Sola, lucky door prizes, and a raffle of donations ...

Wednesday night Bible Study Group happens each week on Wednesday evenings. Please see David for more information.

Morning Prayer and Communion Service - 9.30am every Wednesday. A quiet space in the middle of the week to be still, pray, meditate to Taize music, discuss the gospel reading, followed by a cuppa at Garnish. All are welcome.

Mission of the church - please continue to pray for our work leading the children in Godly Play each Tuesday at Haberfield Public School and for the work of The Ella Centre.

Prayers for local churches - The local Haberfield churches have agreed to pray for each other. This week, please pray for the people and mission of St Joan of Arc.

Joy's day off - Friday (of course, if something urgent comes up, please don't hesitate to contact me)

Dates for the diary:

Story-time - Hello to our St David's kids! Dominic, Matilda, Harry, Frank, Sophie, Edie, Ella, Aiden, River, Sacha, Eli and Elise. Our story this week is one that I ordered and just arrived today, called 'Family Forest' by Kim Kane and Lucia Masciullo and Tonia will be reading it for us on the story mat. We look forward to seeing you 😊

This week's photos include: photos from Pentecost Sunday, including David at his baptism and morning tea; our very empty Kindness Cupboard; this week's story book

This week's prayer is from Iona Abbey worship book:

May the mind of God,
ever wiser than our minds,
search us deeply and open us to the truths
that make for our healing.
May the ears of God,
ever open to our prayers,
listen for us deeply
and hear, beneath our words,
our honest yearnings.
May the heart of God,
ever filled with costly love,
cherish us deeply,
mending any brokenness
and affirming worth.
May God keep us company this night
and bring us joy in the morning.

Amen

Wherever you are and whoever you are, you are welcome in this place.
With love, hope, peace and
Joy💒
