World YMCA Newsletter - June 2021

We in the YMCA are officially 177 years old this week.
We’re marking the great day on 6 June 1844 when George Williams assembled a group of young men above a drapery story in St Paul’s, London, and thereby gave birth to what was to become the global YMCA Movement.
And we’re doing so by linking it to another great event in 2021, on 7 June this time: the YMCA Youth-Led Solutions 3-day online Summit on ‘the Future of Work’.
Have a look at the short video piece below showing that the roots of 2021 are in 1844.
Read more below, and make sure that you are registered to join 850-and-counting young people from over 80 countries worldwide. They will be exploring new pathways to work in a jobs market which – thanks to COVID19 and more - is undergoing major transformation.
I'm looking forward to a great event, which will look closely at new job opportunities for young people in the growing Green, Care and Creative economies. We've lined up superb speakers and a rich programme - and, by attending, young people become eligible to apply for seed-funding to launch youth-led solutions to the employment challenges in their own communities.
This is the future: young people showing us the way.
See you online on Monday 7 June!

Carlos Sanvee, Secretary General, World YMCA

What do we mean by ‘Youth-Led Solutions’?
In March this year, World YMCA launched and seed-funded some 35 ‘Youth-Led Solution’ projects in 20 countries, all addressing climate change in local communities.  (We will do the same after ‘The Future of Work’ Summit of 7-9 June.)  Read about the seven climate action projects launched in the USA. More
