CIGAR 'Smokes Out' Attacks on Solar Power

While the need for security in the power grid is clear, cybersecurity has typically been “bolted on” after the fact. The Berkeley Lab project Cybersecurity via Inverter-Grid Automatic Reconfiguration (CIGAR) project aimed at providing security protections for emerging power systems.

CRD's Saye, Azad Win DOE Office of Science Early Career Research Awards

Robert Saye, a scientist in CRD’s Mathematics group, and Ariful Azad, an affiliate scientist in CRD’s Performance and Algorithms Research group and assistant professor of intelligent systems engineering at Indiana University, have each received 2021 Early Career Research Program awards from the Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Office of Science. Now in its twelfth year, the award supports exceptional researchers during critical stages of their formative work by funding their research for five years.

Deploying ZoMbis at ESnet – Part II

ESnet6 will employ network "sinkholes" to capture and analyze data traffic for problems mundane and sinister. Sinkholes could even trigger automated mitigations for some attacks.

A Paradigm Shift in Deep Learning for Chemistry and Materials Science

NESAP Postdoc Brandon Wood blogs about the impact the GPU-rich Perlmutter system will have as deep learning grows increasingly important to chemistry and materials sciences.

Summer Student Program Kicks Off

The 2021 Computing Sciences Area Summer Program kicked off last week with a welcome by CRD Director David Brown. Held virtually for a second year due to the ongoing pandemic, the program still offers the same rich array of mentorship, research, talks, and activities, including the ever-popular poster session.

They're not superheroes, but nanoparticle superlattices may have properties that may be useful in solar cells. Scientists used @argonne_lcf & @NERSC to look at how the parts that bind particles together affect superlattices' properties. #ScienceNeverSleeps
