Music collectors of the Upstate!

This is JB reporting from Gene's desk, with one last shout before Record Store Day Drop1 which is this Saturday from 8am to 8pm. Yea, we have been receiving these exclusive releases from different labels and distributors for the past few weeks and this Saturday, they will be  available for the public. There's all kind of goodies this time around. There are certainly titles that us staffers would like to add to our own collections. RESIST THE URGE we tell ourselves... Or not!  Click here for our Drop1 roundup or click here for the complete list.  As always with RSD product, there's no holds and no guarantees. We order a bunch of stuff,  not all of it actually ships and we sell what we have and then that's that. There's a certain mania to the whole thing, I guess that's why we use the screaming lady on the graphic. We're glad to participate, but when it's over we are also glad to get back to the week in and out of sourcing and stocking LPs & CDs that we love and curating for an experience that we think our shoppers will enjoy. I guess we just like being your neighborhood record store so thanks for the support! We do have a few new releases outside of the RSD stuff. See the features below as well as pictures of some Drop1 goodies. Don't forget to check out our newish online store at shop.horizonrecords.net. It doesn't replace the record store experience but it is another way that we can serve our customers in the 21st century.
It has allowed us to start offering preorders which seems to be a win for everybody. You can secure that uber limited indie-exclusive neon  splatter version of your favorite artists release and we know how many to bring in the house. We offer counter pick-up, curbside or direct shipping. I know, it's brilliant!

Here are a few key preorders for your consideration; just click through the links and reserve your copy!

Bad Brains is the self-titled debut studio album recorded by American hardcore punk/reggae band Bad Brains. Recorded in 1981 and released on (then) cassette-only label ROIR on February 5, 1982, many fans refer to it as "The Yellow Tape". Though Bad Brains had recorded the 16 song Black Dots album in 1979 and the 5-song Omega Sessions EP in 1980, the ROIR cassette was the band's first release of anything longer than a single. The release includes the original liner notes by Ira Kaplan of Yo La Tengo. This reissue marks the second release in the remaster campaign on the band's own Bad Brains Records imprint with Org Music. RHIANNON GIDDENS
They're Calling Me Home
vinyl LP & CD
buy it here!

Giddens and Italian multi-instrumentalist Francesco Turrisi, who both live in Ireland found themselves drawn to the music of their native and adoptive countries during lockdown. Exploring the emotions brought up by the moment, Giddens and Turrisi decamped to a small studio on a working farm outside of Dublin, to record these songs over six days. The result is a twelve-track album that speaks of the longing for the comfort of home as well as the metaphorical “call home” of death, which has been a tragic reality for so many during the COVID-19 crisis. The minstrel banjo, accordion and frame drums that have become characteristic of the pair’s sound are well represented on the album, but it’s the viola and cello banjo combination that captures unexpected emotion and intensity. Joining them at key moments are Congolese guitarist Niwel Tsumbu and Irish traditional musician Emer Mayock on flute, whistle, and pipes.

'It's about hopelessness and darkness,' says Aidan Moffat. 'But in a fun way.' The Arab Strap frontman is speaking about the band's 7th studio album and their first since 2005's The Last Romance . The band who bought you the classic and legendary "The First Big Weekend" return with new music for the first time in 15 years. 'It's definitely Arab Strap, but an older and wiser one, and quite probably a better one.' The first track lifted from the new album 'The Turning of Our Bones' saw a much welcome return to form and proved very much that Arab Strap are back from the grave and ready to rave! As the band's Malcolm Middleton told the Guardian newspaper when they profiled the band upon news of their return, 'There's no point getting back together to release mediocrity.'
