Message from the Chair

Kristy Christie

Dear <<First Name>>

The last 11 months have absolutely flown by and I find it hard to believe that we are nearing the end of the 2020/21 term.

We recently published both our Annual Report and the proposed 2021/22 board slate, in preparation for our AGM on Tuesday 22nd June 2021. If you are an active IABC member, please do participate by registering here or by emailing us your vote!

Directly following the AGM, all members and chapter leaders are invited to stay on the call to hear from Danielle Bond SCMP (Incoming Chair, IABC International Executive Board) and Zora Artis GAICD SCMP (Immediate Past Chair, IABC APAC) on "IABC 2025: Stronger Together". This session will cover the new strategic plan that addresses trends impacting the communications profession and our association and our plan for the future. Danielle and Zora (both of whom were members of the Strategic Planning Taskforce) will preview elements of the #IABC2025 plan while also engaging participants to share insights and feedback on the future of IABC and the profession. This promises to be an enlightening session that will set the direction for the coming years.

Having worked hard this past term to tie all our initiatives back to the IABC strategic pillars, the board & I have so been touched by the messages we have received from everyone who has send us their thoughts on the annual report. It has been wonderful to look back and review the initiatives that we pursued, and the results that followed. The report's contents is a testament to the desire of the region's directors to go above and beyond in order to work together with leaders & members, in advancing the profession. It is their hard work that the report celebrates - so I hope you will take a peek if you have the chance.

Speaking of advancing the profession, I would like to offer my warmest congratulations to Sia Papageorgiou, FRSA, SCMP on being named the IABC APAC 2021 Communicator of the Year in the senior communication professional category. Watch the interview with her below, to hear of just some of the ways in which she has worked tirelessly to support a wide community of practitioners.

This month, we also have a free webinar on "Supporting & Driving Transformation" by 3 industry leaders. With so many organisations in the midst of change, this is a great link to share. Also, if you haven't already registered for the IABC World Conference to learn from its absolutely power packed agenda (including keynote speakers from NASA, Pfizer and more!) then what are you waiting for? I'm going to be there along with the 10 IABC APAC members who won tickets from the social media giveaway we ran this month.

This may be my last month as Chair but rest assured the Region is already hard at work preparing for the  new term under the leadership of James Howe. To all past and present APAC region directors, thank you for all the passion, dedication, and commitment you have shown - we could not have come this far without each of you. Thank you Zora Artis GAICD SCMP, who has given so much during this past year. Zora will be stepping down from the Region Board after 3 years of service, and prepares to transition from Vice Chair to Chair of the IABC World Conference Committee.

Special shoutout to Wayne Aspland (Strategic Communication Director) who has been the driving force behind each of these mailers, working hard to make them as informative and entertaining as possible. He also rarely lets me thank him publicly for all that he does so I'm slipping this in before he catches it!

Last but certainly not least, thank YOU <<First Name>>, for having come along on this ride with me. I certainly appreciate your time in reading these monthly messages. I have met so many wonderful people that I would not have otherwise connected with. So if you haven't already, I hope you add me on LinkedIn or Twitter to keep the conversation going.

Warm Regards,

Kristy Christie, SCMP
Chair IABC Asia Pacific

P.S. Despite your best-laid plans, I did find your comment, Kristy. Thanks so much for the call-out. I hope you don't mind me sharing the glory with my awesome APAC comms co-conspirators, Samara Williams and Tasha Bourke. Thanks Sam and Tash and thanks Kristy. It's been a blast. Wayne

We're super-excited to announce that Sia Papageorgiou, FRSA, SCMP, has been selected as the winner of the 2021 IABC Asia Pacific Communicator of the Year Award – Senior Communication Professional.

Sia's entry really stood out in a very competitive field because of her tremendous contributions to the communication profession in Asia Pacific and across IABC.

Please join us in congratulating Sia on being named the 2021 IABC Asia Pacific Communicator of the Year. Learn more about Sia at our web site, or check out this video.

June reading

This month, we have some powerful reading... although it might just send you cross-eyed!

Recently, we've seen the release of three interconnected global comms reports: They make for incredibly valuable reading, but be warned. The reports are, in fact, large collections of charts with a summary at the head of each section. Yes, the summaries are useful, but you'll only find the real gold if you take the time to flick through the charts.

Connect and learn.
