JUNE Newsletter
Well hello there and HELLO SUMMER! June has been a whirlwind of a month for us already as we attempt a daily upload schedule! SAY WHAT?! No idea what I'm on about? Check out my Youtube channel for a brand new video every morning at 9am - from baking birthday cakes to full face brand reviews, we're only one week in and there's *plenty* more to come. And hopefully there's more to come of this glorious summer weather too, so today I thought I'd round up all my usual monthly bumf, with a side-dish of hot weather essentials that I'll be reaching for all season long...

Lesson #42

The Summer 2021 Essentials List

Whatever happens, it will be a summer like no other, right? Here's what I'd recommend having on hand...

SPFs By The Bucketload. The Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream SPF30* is a classic and their Daily Defence SPF50* is even better for the summer months - both just melt into the skin. I've recently started testing out the Beauty Pie Ultralight Daily SPF50* (ad - gifted) and it's a sheer fluid that works nicely as a makeup primer too. The La Roche Posay Hyalu B5 SPF30 (ad - gifted) is a gel that glides right over the skin and gives such a gorgeous glow and I enjoy the Fenty Hydra-Vizor SPF30 (ad - gifted) for everyday protection that feels more like a classic moisturiser but without the heaviness. I apply whatever one I'm using generously in the morning and then use the Hello Sunday Take-Out SPF30 to top up with throughout the day. For body I'm not as fussy, I apply whatever is the highest protection I can get my hands on and then top up throughout the day with a spray like the COOLA Classic Sunscreen Spray SPF30* that actually does smell like Pina Coladas.

Linen Shirts. What did I wear before I wore linen shirts all summer long? I really have no idea. The U.K weather is often deceiving and I find taking one of these out with me is a great insurance policy if I've judged the weather completely wrong. It's all of a sudden too hot and I'm about to turn into a lobster in a matter of seconds? Put on my linen shirt over whatever I'm wearing. Or it's windy as hell and all of a sudden feels like autumn has arrived early? Put on my linen shirt over whatever I'm wearing. SO HANDY. Plus it's small and easy crumpled anyway so I'm not too precious to stuff it in my bag. Which ones do I love? Any guesses? See if you were right HERE*.

A Summer Menu. Now that indoor dining with friends is back for some of us, it's a good idea to have a summer-friendly, super quick and easy menu up your sleeves for when the need for food rests on your shoulders. Here's what I've been doing. Coming for lunch? I'll sort you out a mezze platter. I get a selection of cold and crunchy veg and serve it up with some cheese, crackers, hummus, breadsticks, charcuterie meats and picky bits like falafel and those peppers stuffed with cheese. It's very easy to style out and make look fancy - I tend to go on Pinterest and write a shopping list from one that looks simple. Coming over for dinner? Sure, I'll make you the Waitrose Tomato & Mixed Cheese Tart with some roasted potatoes and grilled asparagus - it's a good crowd pleaser. That way everything can be easily prepped and thrown in the oven when it's time to eat. For dessert I love the Waitrose Strawberry Cheesecake Cups - again something that is easily prepped before your guests arrive and put together in five minutes.

Fresh Tunes. You need some summer classics on hand to blast out next time you're heading to the park, or driving in the car with the windows down (because if like me your AC doesn't work!). May I suggest either my Bedroom Divas playlist for some songs that you just HAVE to sing along to, or the Bank Holiday Bangers one for a bit of everything; from disco to Dirty by Christina. Lizzy Hadfield also has some great playlists if you fancy something a bit cooler - I always stick her playlists on when our music buff mates are around - and Tar Mar's 'Chill Playlist' is good to have on whilst you work too.

Beach Reads (even if it's without the beach). I still love Ann Patchett's 'The Dutch House'* and always recommend it as a nice and easy, heart-warming read. In the same vein I loved 'Crazy Rich Asians' by Kevin Kwan* and 'The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo' by Taylor Jenkins Reid*. For non-fiction I've enjoyed 'The Chiffon Trenches' by Andre Leon Talley* and 'A Half Baked Idea' by Olivia Potts*. My favourite gripping page-turners are 'The Silent Patient' by Alex Michaelides* and 'Home Fire' by Kamila Shamsie*.

P.S) Seeing as I'm always asked about our fold-up picnic chairs, I'd add a link HERE*. These were so brilliant last summer when we lived in the flat and wanted to sit outside at the park but actually be comfortable, and we've already used them a few times this season, taking them down the beach with us. Easy to put up, small to transport and extremely light too, they are PERFECT.
