Early Release! One Week Ahead Of Official Release Date.

“A life’s story in ten bars – there is no more magnificent opening of a symphony than the first 34 seconds of Brahms’ Third. We hear a resolute harmony, a proud major chord followed by a twisted one on the same foundation – good and evil, heroic and mean – but it is a mere introduction to the real birth, a victorious emanation of energy, full of life and light. Each bar of this outburst takes us to a new experience: to happiness in F major, sadness in F minor, wandering into the distantly related D flat major, with a confusing dead end of the diminished 7th as if we would almost lose our way. But then a magic solution takes us on a lyrical journey reaching first to fulfillment and finally to a peaceful decline. This is how we should live.”
Iván Fischer, conductor

“It is always exciting to record Iván and his marvelous BFO. This time even more so! Due to a sudden increase of COVID-19 cases, Hungary closed its borders on September 1st, 2020. We had just arrived one day earlier from the Netherlands, having crossed the German, Austrian and Hungarian borders with my van full of recording equipment. Despite the restrictions, the Müpa Budapest concert hall remained accessible. The orchestra members all tested negative, and the recording could be completed. You can probably imagine that the circumstances of this particular recording make us feel extra grateful and proud to have this new album to present to you today! If the project would have been scheduled to begin a few days later, well, this recording would not be here. I truly hope that you will enjoy Fischer’s account of Brahms’ Third.”
Jared Sacks, producer & recording engineer (Channel Classics Records)

Brahms: Symphony No. 1, Variations on a theme by Haydn (2009)
“(…) monumental in every sense of the word: a huge, noble assertion of the inherent dignity of human experience and creative endeavour that leaves you feeling enriched and exalted.” – The Guardian

Brahms: Symphony No. 2 (2014)
“Ivan Fischer’s Brahms is intense, alive, inquisitive and rooted in tradition. His great Budapest orchestra sounds lithe and full of character, and I love that it’s still possible to hear exactly where this band comes from.” – The Herald (Top 10 Classical Recordings 2015)

Brahms: Symphony No. 3, Serenade No. 2 (2021)
“Leaving the best for last, conductor Iván Fischer and the Budapest Festival Orchestra conclude their acclaimed and punctilious cycle of the symphonies by Johannes Brahms. There’s a “cushy”, informal sound to this orchestra and a relaxed yet highly detailed direction by Iván Fischer that befits the lush orchestral writing of Johannes Brahms. (…)” – Classical Music Sentinel

Brahms: Symphony No. 4, Hungarian Dances 3, 7, 11 (2015)
“Intimacy on a grand scale (…) This is an orchestra whose players listen to each other intently. (…) Iván Fischer keeps the larger picture in focus.” – BBC Music Magazine (Double 5 Star Review)

Who can resist the casual, seductive, ingenious and multilayered music of Brazil?

A country of continental dimensions where all of Europe could fit within her borders! But size isn’t everything! From the lithesome, musical elegance of the choro to the hypnotic sensuality of the Bossa nova, and a kaleidoscope of subtle rhythms wrapped in sophisticated jazz harmonies, the sound of Brazilian music is unforgettable unmistakable, and best summed up by the Portuguese word “saudade,” which mingles yearning, sadness, and memory.

The leading recorder-player for decades, Michala Petri returns to take us on a new musical journey to Terra do Brazil through the music of Jobim, Nazareth, Gismonti, Villa-Lobos, Hermeto Pascoal and others. Joining her are two exciting musicians in their fields: the young guitarist and composer Daniel Murray and award-winning percussionist/composer Marilyn Mazur. A natural guitar prodigy, Murray has established himself at a young age as both a masterful interpreter of the music of Tom Jobim and as a leading voice in the contemporary Brazilian music scene. Marilyn Mazur has received numerous jazz awards, toured for several years with Miles Davis, and has a vast experience in many musical fields. With her exceptional listening abilities, and inventive use of percussion she colors the music in soundscapes, ranging from subtle shades to high energy, matching the two other instruments perfectly.

Together, Michala, Marilyn and Daniel transport you to the world of Brazil Sensational!

Listen to this album on your Digital Audio Converter, Digital Audio Player, or DSD or DXD capable disc player. Please don’t stream it! You’ll miss the full intimacy of the masterful engineering of Mikkel Nymand and Preben Iwan…)

We invite you to set up a pitcher of caipirinhas, close your eyes, and imagine yourself beneath an amber moon and softly murmur ‘someday soon.’

Michala Petri – Recorder
Marilyn Mazur – Percussion
Daniel Murray – Guitar

Te Amo, Argentina on Yarlung Records

Antonio Lysy chose these works because they all draw inspiration from the folk music traditions of Argentina. This album highlights the ‘cello as a solo instrument’ and illustrates the impact of pre-Hispanic Amerindian traditions and Spanish based Creole influences as well as the effect of more modern musical developments like the tango on Argentine composers.

Bob Attiyeh at Yarlung recorded this album using Agfa 468 tape and an AKG C-24 stereo microphone with its original brass surround CK12 tube, made available to us by Gearworks Pro Audio. He used five-foot long Yarlung-Records-designed stranded silver interconnects, customized vacuum tube preamplifiers and no mixer. The signal path was as short as he could make it, with as few electronics between performer and final product as possible. With this minimalist recording technique Yarlung believes we give you the closest sound possible to the live event with our musicians in this beautiful acoustic environment. We hope you enjoy the results.

“You’ll hear the sound quality right away. Even before your brain starts analyzing the soundstage, bass and treble extension, dynamics macro and micro, etc., You’ll know you like it.”
- George Witterschein, The Audiophile Voice
