Consultation Now Open on Proposed New Low Traffic Neighbourhoods in East Oxford

Exciting plans for the three new Low Traffic Neighbourhoods are progressing.  The funding is coming from the Active Travel grants from government, and the aim is to make it easier, safer, and healthier for people to walk and cycle.  

Everyone in the three areas should now have had a leaflet through their door, inviting them to give their opinion of the schemes in an online consultation which will be open from tomorrow until 29th June.  We encourage everyone to have their say; it has been observed that people who are against these schemes get heard, people who don't mind don't say so and people who love them aren't as loud as the ones who hate them!  It would be great if the consultation could more accurately reflect local views, and the best way to do that is if everyone takes part.

The plans involve using traffic filters made from planters or bollards, which allow bikes and pedestrians through.  All this will stop through traffic, while all residents who drive will be able to get about, with a few route changes.  The Emergency Services, Refuse Collection, and Disability Forum have all been consulted in drawing up the plans.  The council predicts that congestion on the main roads will initially increase, but it will be monitored and is expected to decrease over time, presumably as more people choose active travel or public transport.

Event: How close are we to a One-Planet Oxfordshire?

In 2018, One Planet Oxfordshire brought together local councils, organisations, businesses, schools and community groups to create a ‘shared vision’ for a better, more sustainable future. They worked with Bioregional's sustainability framework, called One Planet Living.

On 10th June, as the end of the funded program approaches, they invite you to hear about the progress that's been made over the past three years, and what the next steps might be.

The event is free and online, 10-11.30am. If you can't make the live presentation then you can still register and you will be sent a recording.

CAG Collaborate Groups

CAG Oxfordshire organises several working groups on the subjects of waste, energy, surplus food, growing, trees and rewilding, plastics, and climate action with children. They welcome members of community action groups and aim to provide the opportunity to meet up, share knowledge, and find ways of working together.
