News from the CHMS PTO

Thank You

Dear CHMS Parents,

On behalf of the 2020-21 Executive Board, we would like to thank you for helping us make this a great school year for our staff and students, whether they were in-person or remote. You supported our Mask-erade Fundraiser, attended PTO meetings, participated in spirit activities, stocked the lounges, stuffed the squad cars, ate amazing pizza and masked up…your support has meant the world to us, and we are so thankful to be a part of this wonderful community!  Thank you for volunteering, thank you for your patience, and thank you for showing up. As parents, we’re expected to act as positive role models for our children, and we did that this year through perseverance, patience and positivity. This was a year for the history books!

We appreciated serving you as officers on the PTO Board.  Have a wonderful summer, and see you next year.

Jenny Driscoll and Michele Schubkegel, outgoing PTO Co-Presidents

Sounds of CHMS: 6th Grade Band Has the Beat

This week, the CHMS 6th Grade Band held its first and only full rehearsal of the school year. It’s been almost a year and a half since these students played together as Beginning Band students. The band performed beautifully, and even received applause and praises from parents and community members, many of whom set up lawn chairs to enjoy the live music. Mr. Morong and Mr. Lehman couldn’t be more proud of how well these students performed that morning.

Be a CHMS PTO Board Co-VP

The CHMS PTO Executive Board is almost complete, but we are missing two key people, our Co-Vice Presidents. Since this is a two-year commitment, it can feel daunting. With that acknowledged, we truly believe the rewards of serving are huge and if you are the parent of a soon-to-be rising sixth or seventh grader, it is worth your time to consider serving in this capacity. We asked one of our outgoing Co-Presidents, Jenny Driscoll, to share her thoughts on joining the board. Give it a read and please send an email to vp@chmspto.org if you’d like to apply or ask any questions.

“I was approached to join the CHMS PTO board as I was rolling off of a two-year commitment to the Monroe PTO board. Initially, I was hesitant to commit to another two years of service, and I was worried that the learning curve would be too steep since I was brand-new to CHMS.

When I realized there was strong leadership in place and the VP year would be a year of learning, I agreed to take the position on, and I’m so glad I did!

I know more about how the middle school works than I ever would have, and it was the perfect way to meet moms and dads from the other feeder schools quickly. I really enjoyed the friendships I established with the women on the board, and I love making important decisions that directly impact my son’s school experience. Being a board member enhanced MY school experience these last two years… I enjoyed it very much and wouldn’t hesitate to do it again!”

Jenny and Michele are happy to answer any questions about the VP commitment that potential candidates might want to ask. Please email president@chmspto.org  for real talk about this extraordinary experience.

Coming This Fall…The CHMS Parent List

The PTO would like your help compiling a list of local groups and organizations that offer opportunities to middle schoolers. The goal is to expose parents new to the area or new to middle school to fun activities their child(ren) might enjoy.  Examples include 630 Volleyball, Wyld Life, Falcon Football and Cheer, Chess-Ed…the sky’s the limit.

If you have a recommendation for our list, please email parentlist@chmspto.org.  We’ll be updating the list all summer long and will publish our first edition when school starts in the fall.
