Big Idea #2: Celebrating Winter: Place and Placemaking in Winter Cities

Date: Tuesday, June 29, 7-8PM
Presenter: Madeleine Stout

Winter cities are weather places: the weather has a particularly profound effect on our experience of winter cities, and in turn winter cities have a profound effect on our experience of weather. Experiences of and negative attitudes towards winter can be improved with planning and policy that is attentive to the specifics of winter and place. Winter festivals, in particular, seek to tell authentic winter stories and are sites of winter celebration.

FUTURE OF WHYTE AVE SURVEY

In collaboration with local community leagues

Community Leagues along Whyte Avenue have partnered with Paths for People to develop a strong community vision for what Whyte Avenue's public realm (sidewalk, roadway, parks, and intersections) could look like as this street evolves.

Eventually Whyte Avenue will be completely refurbished. Transforming Whyte into a true Main Street will be vital for local community vibrancy and Edmonton as a whole! We want to work together to identify this vision for a Main Street in our community.

Let us know what you think of the Whyte Avenue corridor and what its future should look like through this survey, open June 10 to July 31, 2021.
