Help us expand our Social Media Reach in D12
Penny Dolin,Social Media Team

The advent of Gutenberg’s moveable type in 1456 democratized information and led to the rise of literacy. But you still needed equipment and skill to print your information and so the availability was limited. With the internet and social media, now anyone can be a “publisher” with good and bad consequences.

The microblogging site Twitter and the social networking site Facebook have led many to a greater sense of community and shared vision. Some of the good reasons to use Twitter are

Twitter reflects current trends in society
  • Twitter is a good source of decentralized news - you may discover a news source you didn’t know about
  • Twitter is great for networking
  • Via hashtags you can search for likeminded communities
  • Twitter is an excellent source of real time – Global - updates
While there are great reasons to use this social media platform, Twitter has also resulted in intense mis-information campaigns and harm. Always vet your news source as much as possible.

LD12 has a strong desire to use our social media platforms for the benefit of our district, and beyond. To do that, we need YOU to follow and interact with us so we know we are providing you with useful information. In particular, sharing important posts helps us get our message out to the greatest number of people. Whether we like social media or not, it is here to stay and we need to all help make it a source of good information.

Please support LD12 and follow us on twitter at @D12Democrats and on Facebook at AZ Democrats of LD12
June is National PRIDE Month

The month of June celebrates LGBTQ+ people and the community through a variety of festivals, parades and events.  Many historians believe that June 28 -  the day LGBTQ+ people of New York City fought local police after the iconic gay nightclub Stonewall Inn was raided in 1969 - is what ultimately launched modern day Pride and celebratory events seen today.

The White House issued this Proclamation on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgener, and Queer Pride Month, 2021.

On Friday, June 11 - It is Pride Night at the Arizona Diamondbacks.  Tickets and information can be found here
http://www.dbacks.com/pride

Don't miss the Unity Mural at Scottsdale Fashion Square on display all month.  For more information, check out this link:   http://www.fashionsquare.com/PRIDE

Both the Arizona Democratic Party (ADP) and Maricopa County Democratic Party (MCDP) have committees that advocate and support the LGBTQ+ community. For additional information, please check out:

On May 15th, D12 Democrats held our Quince de Mayo fundraiser - the first in-person event since February 2020!  There was great food, music, and face-to-face conversation.  Besides having fun, we met our ticket sale and attendance goals, in the range of 30-50, making it a total success all around.

Thank you to all the ticket purchasers and donors that made it possible.  Thanks also to the hosts for the event, Cherie and Jeff Gores who opened up their home/backyard and provided the food and refreshments.  Finally, thank you to the handful of volunteers who helped with the final food preparation.

The Fundraising Committee is planning more events over the summer.  Watch for announcements.
The next event will be a June 25th Happy Hour, from 4-6pm (or later) at Rio Rico Mexican Grill, 929 N. Val Vista Drive, #101, Gilbert, AZ 85234.  We hope to see you there!
