For All Schools
We are writing in follow-up to the email that superintendents received from the Commissioner’s office on Sunday afternoon regarding managing “heat days,” and to provide guidance on MCAS testing for districts that may need to cancel school on one or more days this week.
As a reminder, the last planned day for MCAS testing was Friday, June 11, 2021. In light of Friday’s guidance, the Department is offering two additional MCAS testing days through Tuesday, June 15, 2021, for schools that are not able to hold their planned testing days due to heat closures. If a school plans an early release day due to heat, arrangements must be made for test administrators to stay with students who have not finished their work until the time at which school would end on a regular school day (or testing should be scheduled instead on the next regular school day).
To assist the Department in tracking schools’ use of these additional days, schools are requested to update their scheduled test days in PearsonAccess Next.
Schools doing paper-based testing (PBT) had returned materials by Friday, June 4, for students’ results to be included in early reporting. With the extension of testing through June 15, the automatic pickup is being rescheduled for June 16. Schools are encouraged to schedule an earlier pickup if testing is completed online at www.mcasservicecenter.com. PBT materials received on June 16 will be included in the next round of results.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. Policy questions may be directed to the Department’s Office of Student Assessment Services at mcas@doe.mass.edu or 781-338-3625, and questions about logistics should be directed to the MCAS Service Center at mcas@cognia.org or 800-737-5103.
