Vortex Cold Storage, LLC Holds Groundbreaking

Vortex Cold Storage, LLC broke ground in April on its 170,000 square foot, food-safe cold storage warehouse in Albert Lea, Minn. The facility is being built in the service territory of Dairyland member, Freeborn Mower Electric Cooperative. Strategically located at the intersection of Interstates 90 and 35, the facility will provide state-of the-art, temperature-controlled Safe Quality Food Certified storage as well as customizable warehouse services. The $31 million project will result in up to 26 new jobs. Click here for additional information from the Jan. 21, 2021 project announcement.

Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds

The American Rescue Plan will deliver $350 billion for eligible state, local, territorial and Tribal governments to respond to the COVID-19 emergency. Rural Placemaking Innovation Challenge Grants

USDA is making available up to $3 million in cooperative agreements under the Rural Placemaking Innovation Challenge (RPIC) for eligible entities to provide planning support, technical assistance and training to foster placemaking activities in rural communities. Funds can be used to help rural communities create plans to enhance capacity for broadband access; preserve cultural and historic structures; and support the development of transportation, housing, and recreational spaces.
