We're going to have a summer break, so no meeting in August. Our next meeting will be on the first Tuesday in September. We will send the Zoom link with the August newsletter.

LCEO meetings are on the first Tuesday of the month, and we nearly always keep them to 45 minutes!  Everyone is welcome!

Video of the Electric Vehicle Q&A Event

The online Q&A all about electric vehicles was a really fun and useful event.  If you missed it, or were there and want to recap what was said, then you can find the video of it here:

https://vimeo.com/565558003

Our two brilliantly knowledgeable locals took the mystery out of EV use and provided welcome reassurance.  If you’re at all curious about buying an EV or using one through a car club, then we encourage you to take a look.

Have you done any retrofitting on your house?

Following our successful EV evening, and some interest expressed in our Facebook group, we were thinking of doing something similar about retrofitting. So - if you have done some work on your East Oxford house to make it more efficient, sustainable or climate-change resilient, and you would be willing to share it with other local folk, do let us know by replying to this email (or email together@lceo.org.uk).

Thanks!

Wild Oxford Walk - survey

We have a couple of surveys we thought you'd like to comment on.

The first is from a group of residents involved in the campaign to protect the Iffley Village open fields. They are trying to assess the public appetite for a formalised 'Wild Oxford Walk' on the Eastern side of the river which would connect several of the green and wild spaces near us.

Details about the project and the questionnaire are here (a Google doc form).

Consultation on Oxford’s Urban Forest

The second is the Oxford City Council seeking the views of the city residents about their new Urban Forest Strategy ('urban forest' = 'all the trees and vegetation in the city').

The consultation is open on line until July 26:  https://www.oxford.gov.uk/news/article/1878/have_your_say_on_protecting_and_managing_oxford_s_urban_forest

The strategy document can be downloaded at the bottom of this page: https://consultation.oxford.gov.uk/policy-and-communications/urban-forest-strategy/

A Money-Off Offer From Co-wheels Car Club

Co-wheels car club, which has several fully electric and hybrid vehicles amongst their East Oxford fleet, is offering £1 membership plus £25 driving credit and no monthly fees to new members if you use the referral code Oxford110 when you sign up.

https://www.co-wheels.org.uk/oxford

If you don’t use a car often, a car club can be a very economical alternative to owning your own vehicle, especially if you factor in how much value a car loses over time, and it’s very convenient too - servicing, cleaning or taxing etc is all taken care of!  Why not give it a try!

Home Energy Saving video interlude

This month’s installment on saving energy in your home, is a video of a talk organised jointly by Low Carbon West Oxford and Low Carbon Oxford North, all about how to improve your home to use less energy.  If you’ve not yet seen it, it’s well worth a watch!

Broad Meadow

And finally, not in East Oxford, but no too far away - Broad Street in the city centre has been transformed into a "meadow" for the duration of the summer. A public space with wild-flowers, grasses, seating and space for community and arts events. It is a lovely space to relax in, and is a wonderful example of how public spaces should be. Do check it out, and to give you a taste in the meantime, here are a couple of pictures taken by LCEO member Liz:

That's it for now!

That's it for this month's newsletter. If you'd like to see something included in next month's newsletter or have an idea for a campaign we could run in east Oxford, send us an email to comms@lceo.org.uk - we'd love to hear from you.

Best wishes,
The Low Carbon East Oxford Team
