Flexi-Seasons and carnets

Flexi-Seasons

Details of the new Flexi-seasons were announced on Monday - this brings good news for some, but bad news for others. We will send a further email within a few days laying out the whole picture, but wanted to update you asap on one aspect of the change.

Withdrawal of peak carnets

The Government has decided that peak carnets will be withdrawn and replaced by the new product.

The impact is that anyone who has a journey Hatfield to London Terminals and uses peak carnets in the morning will end up paying more than currently.

Pricing

Carnet journeys at "9-5" commuting times for London Terminals are currently £8.30 + £6.20 = £14.50.

A Flexi-season return journey will be £16.66.

Off-peak carnets are staying for now and we believe the optimal fare for people who aren't travelling enough to justify an ordinary season ticket will be:

TfL Contactless into London am £9.10
Off-peak carnet to Hatfield pm £6.20
Total  £15.30

Check the figures

We recommend you do your sums carefully.

NB Flexi-seasons provide for 8 return journeys in 28 days - 2 per week, but you can buy another one as soon as you finish the first. For some people they will provide a saving - we will talk more about options for other destinations in our follow-up newsletter in the next few days.

Also remember that, if you aren't tied to travelling on particular days, you can get 2 weeks from a weekly season eg Wed - Tue.

Stock up on carnets

You can buy peak carnets until this Sunday 27 June and they are valid for three months.

If you can afford to do so, you might want to buy a supply and continue to travel at the current prices during that period.

Remember to allow for any planned holidays, but carnet sets can be shared between 2 or more people, if you find you have too many near the expiry date. Only full sets can be refunded, not individual tickets.

Questions

If you have any queries we will try to answer them by email committee@hatfield rail.com or on Twitter @CommitteeHart.

You can also ask at the station or contact GN/TL.

Other issues

We continue to work on a wide range of other topics - impacting trains, the station and information provision.

In the meantime, if you have any questions or an issue where you think we can assist, please let us know - by email or via Twitter.

Spread the Word

Please let other station users know of our existence and encourage them to join our mailing list and/or follow us on Twitter. We update the Twitter feed on our website with news items etc in between newsletters.

Do let us have details of any other issues and concerns and we will assist in raising them in an appropriate forum.

Help please! - in order to maximise our impact in matters effecting you, we need further volunteers - even a small amount of time would help e.g. info stands at the station, contributing to these newsletters, updating info on our website etc. You can contact us on committee@hatfieldrail.com.
