It seems to me, that at certain moments in our lives, the Holy Spirit tugs at our hearts and calls us to something more.  Perhaps our faith life is stagnant, or the Lord puts into our hearts the desire to go deeper.

If you are looking for something more at this time in your life, please consider jumping into the IMPACT cohort that is beginning this fall in Iowa Falls.  It is an archdiocesan formation program, and is often not offered this close to Cedar Falls.  The reason I highly encourage you to consider this is because all of the parishioners I have had through the years who have participated in this have found it to be very worthwhile.  Information on this is found in this Stone’s Throw.

This weekend I will be back home in the parishes in Colo, State Center, Zearing and Nevada.  I served as their pastor for six years back in the day.  I’m sure they will welcome me back, as I have noticed that people like you more after you have left!  We are grateful to Fr. Solomon Farinto for coming to be with us Sunday.

All the best,

Fr. Jon

Congratulations to Deacon Dr. Len and Gail Froyen on their 63rd anniversary this week.  Len and Gail have been instrumental members of St. Stephen for many, many years, with Deacon Len serving his active ministry for our community. The pewter vessels that we use during Mass in Advent, Lent, and the month of June were donated in their honor to celebrate their 40th Anniversary.  Ad multos annos!

The event will take place via Zoom on Sunday, July 25 from 2:30-4:30 PM and includes a keynote talk by Archbishop Jackels, breakout session talks by local experts and married couples, opportunities to network and ask questions, and more. If interested, register for this FREE virtual event at: nfp.dbqarch.org/nfp-virtual-summit.

Note from the Archbishop:
Earlier this year, it was communicated that, when the COVID vaccines were available to anyone who wants it, at that time the standing “pandemic” permissions would expire.

As we have hailed that happy day, beginning the weekend of 5-6 June 2021

1)    Catholics in the Archdiocese of Dubuque are once again obliged to participate in Mass on Sundays and other Holy Days of Obligation.

Sunday Mass in church, avoiding unnecessary labor, and doing good deeds are the ways Catholics obey the Third Commandment: Keep holy the Sabbath.

Catholics can legitimately excuse themselves from Sunday Mass, if they are:
·       Afraid of getting the COVID from people outside their household
·       Afraid of traveling to church because of bad weather
·       Frail from age or illness
·       Taking care of someone sick or homebound, or an infant
·       Without means to get to the church for Mass
·       Scheduled to work at the times when Mass is celebrated
Basically, there is no sin in missing Mass if I would go if I could go, but I can’t due to circumstances outside my control.
