New and Nearly-New Faith Formation Leader Virtual Event

Welcome to the world of Faith Formation! If you are new (in your first few years of ministry) as a Faith Formation Leader, you are highly encouraged to join us for this New & Nearly New Faith Formation Leader event. Anyone else who would like to join us is welcome to attend. This year, the N&NN day will be virtual and there will be two options to attend: Wednesday, August 11 from 1:00 - 3:30 PM or Thursday, August 12 from 9:00 - 11:30 AM (select the one that works best for you). To register for the event, click here. After you register, you will receive a link to the Zoom meeting you've chosen to attend.
Additionally, we have set virtual office hours for members of the FF Team to meet with each of you individually after the formal program, to walk through any specific questions you may have.  We encourage you to schedule a time with the member(s) of the team you feel would best help you address your immediate questions. Use this link to schedule your time with one or more of us. If none of these times work for you, please contact us and we'll set up another date/time.

Fall FFL Day: "Setting Hearts On Fire!"
Tuesday, August 17, 2021    9:00 AM - 3:00 PM

The Faith Formation Team invites you to the Fall Faith Formation Leader Day, “Setting Hearts on Fire!” This day will be an opportunity to network with other Faith Formation Leaders, gain new insights, share wisdom, and pray together. The event is open to Faith Formation Leaders, Pastors, and all in parish or school ministry who help others to grow in their faith. This FREE event will be offered in a hybrid format, with participants joining either in-person at St. Mary Church in Waverly, or virtually. We will be opening the Zoom at 10:15 AM to offer time for anyone to ask specific questions of the Faith Formation Team, and for you to "chat" with others who have joined. The VOH will also include small-group breakout discussion.

This ministry connects 2021 high school grads to college campus ministries across the United States. We highly encourage you to promote this program to parents and graduating high school seniors, so they can have a seamless transition to a faith community at college. To introduce (or reintroduce) yourself (or your catechists) to the Education Resource Center (ERC), OR JUST FOR A CHANCE TO ENTER INTO A DRAWING TO RECEIVE A FREE BOOK/DVD FROM THE ERC, take a few minutes to watch Bright Ideas from the ERC, a published Google Slides presentation found HERE.              
                                        
It is not too late to set up the following:

  • The ERC staff can assist you with exploring models, methods, and materials for faith formation in your parish. Come visit the ERC to browse curriculum and supplemental materials for all ages. (We encourage you to call ahead for an appointment.)
  • ERC staff offers inservicing for catechists including the following topics:

    • Technology Tools for Enhancing Faith Formation

Catechetical Sunday: "Say the Word and My Soul Shall Be Healed."
Sunday, September 19, 2021
Now is the time to consider how you will celebrate Catechetical Sunday in your parish/cluster! This year, the Church will celebrate Catechetical Sunday on September 19, 2021, and the theme will be: “Say the Word and My Soul Shall be Healed." Those who the parish community has designated to serve as catechists will be called forth to be commissioned for their ministry. The USCCB provides free online resources to parish catechetical leaders and catechists, ministers to youth and young adults, Catholic school principals and teachers, as well as other individuals who provide faith formation to diverse age groups and settings. 

Catechetical Institute 
Catechetical Institute provides authentically Catholic resources that help to form those who are forming others within your parish or your school. Contact Joanne Pohland with general questions about how to use Catechetical Institute, or for help with Catechist Formation. Natural Family Planning Awareness Week
July 25 - 31, 2021

Natural Family Planning Awareness Week will take place July 25-31, 2021. The theme is “To Have, To Hold, To Honor.” For resources from the USCCB, click here. If you would like “Top Ten Reasons to Use NFP” brochures, flyers, or posters (in English or Spanish), please contact Matt Selby.

In celebration of NFP Awareness Week, the Archdiocese of Dubuque will host an NFP Virtual Summit, an opportunity to learn about what NFP is and why it is beneficial. This virtual event will be held on Sunday, July 25 from 2:30 - 4:30 PM, and will include a keynote talk by Archbishop Jackels, breakout session talks by local experts and married couples, opportunities to network and ask questions, and more. There is no charge to participate, but you must register at: nfp.dbqarch.org/nfp-virtual-summit.

World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly
"I Am With You Always"
Sunday, July 25, 2021

Pope Francis recently established the 4th Sunday of July each year as the “World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly.” It will take place on Sunday, July 25th this year. With the theme, "I Am With You Always," the day draws attention to the vital role grandparents and the elderly play in our communities and in the mission of the Church. Resources and opportunities for ministering to grandparents, including a blessing of grandparents that could be used at Masses that weekend, can be found here: www.dbqarch.org/grandparenting.


Marriage Enrichment Ministry
Has your parish considered starting or re-starting (post-COVID) a marriage enrichment ministry? Many parishes utilize opportunities like Date Night to help married couples experience marriage formation, enrichment, support, and community. Trained Covenant of Love marriage mentor couples are available throughout the Archdiocese to help married couples achieve relationship goals with support, information, and guidance. Teens Encounter Christ (TEC) Dates Set for 2021-2022
TEC dates and locations have been set for next year. They are as follows:
  • TEC #589 - Friday, November 5 to Sunday, November 7, 2021
    Wahlert High School, Dubuque
  • TEC #590 - Friday, November 12 to Sunday, November 14, 2021
    Marquette School, Bellevue
  • TEC #591 - Saturday, February 26 to Monday, February 28, 2022
    Beckman School, Dyersville.
TEC is a three-day retreat that focuses on the Paschal Mystery of Jesus. Please encourage all 11th and 12th Grade teens in your parishes to consider setting aside three days for this life-changing opportunity. More information is available at dbqarch.org/TEC.

Archdiocese of Dubuque IMPACT Formation Program for Adults
The next two-year IMPACT cohort begins in September, 2021 and will meet monthly (on Saturdays) at St. Mark Parish in Iowa Falls. Parish faith formation leaders and catechists are encouraged to apply. Through spiritual reading, dynamic presenters, engaging discussion, prayer experiences, and personal reflection, participants will be challenged to respond more fully to Jesus’ call to mission—to IMPACT our world! Nominate Your Parish/School for the 2021 Inclusion Award!
Any Parish/School/College in the archdiocese which advocates for inclusivity of persons with disabilities is eligible to receive the Embracing Inclusion award. Awards will be given for Best Program or Project for fuller inclusive participation in the life of the faithful, and Best Improvement to Property providing greater accessibility. Awards will be presented at the annual Celebration of Life Mass celebrated in October. The nomination form can be found HERE. Nominations will be accepted through August 1.
