ESRI Introduces ArcGIS for Teams

Are you a fan of Microsoft Teams? Well if the answer is yes, then we have some exciting news for you.

With the recent updates and changes that ESRI has been working on, they finally introduced a feature named ArcGIS for Teams. This feature allows you to manage and view your organization where the conversations are taking place.

“The ongoing pandemic has forced companies, schools, and organizations to expedite digital transformation by pivoting to work-from-home environments. This has caused a seismic shift from largely in-person gatherings to online meetings, group calls, and even virtualization of watercooler conversations. Microsoft Teams has emerged as the center of group collaboration within many organizations during this time. With ArcGIS for Teams, you can now share information, dashboards, and maps instantly where conversations are happening. The new normal includes the ability to communicate and share in real-time, we designed ArcGIS for Teams to meet those demands.” - Rey Umali (Product Marketing at ESRI).

Are you a big fan of data? Do you love spending time out in the field collecting some geospatial data?

In our LearnArcGIS tutorial series, we have created new episodes where we teach and show you how to create surveys using the Survey123 Connect application.

We know what you are thinking right now! You are probably thinking you could just go on the Survey123 website and create a survey just like that but no.

The Survey123 website has very much limited functionality when it comes to creating surveys. Imagine you are collecting data from Households and you need to collect the names and information of all the kids in a Household. How do you create a logical form that generates fields and questions based on a question? Say for example: How many children do you have? Then when the user gives an input to say ‘4’, the form automatically generated 4 fields that require independent data for each of the kids. Unfortunately the web does not provide such room for Survey Logic which is why we are going to be helping you out.

Below are the two video topics we have covered soo far and we look forward to covering more.

An Introduction

Watch on YouTube

In this video we are going to introduce you to a tool by ESRI called Survey123 Connect. Survey123 Connect is a desktop application that can be used to create surveys that automatically store and host your data in ArcGIS Online environment. We are going to be showing you a demonstration survey that we are going to be creating in future videos and also in this video we show you how you can manage to download the application for your usage. Stay tuned for more videos as we explore this data collection tool by ESRI.

Create Basic Form Fields

Watch on YouTube

In this video we go a step further by creating a basic survey form with general fields which are commonly used and are always found in most surveys. We will be using the Survey123 Connect Desktop application to create this survey.

Here is a typical list of all the fields that we are going to be adding to the form for our LIVING CONDITIONS - HEALTH SURVEY

  • Date & Time - this field is going to be filled in by default based on the current date and time and the user is not going to be able to edit this field

  • Family Name

  • Respondent's FirstName - these are just going to be text fields which the user needs to fill in

  • Residential Type - the user is supposed to choose their residential type from a list of three types which is going to be provided in this survey. The field only allows the users to select one option from the list.

  • Location - we are going to store the current users location as a point on a map in the feature layer which is going to be hosted in ArcGIS Online.
