CMAK Sandy Hook Memorial Foundation Named an Official Charity Partner of the 2021 TCS New York City Marathon

Sandy Hook, Ct, June 21st, 2021CMAK (Chase-Michael-Anthony-Kowalski) Sandy Hook Memorial Foundation (CMAK) was named an Official Charity Partner for the 2021 TCS New York City Marathon, taking place on November 7. This year serves as the 50th celebratory running of the marathon. CMAK will be among the more than 400 official charity partners providing thousands of runners the opportunity to run in the world’s most popular marathon.

Chase Kowalski was a first-grader at Sandy Hook Elementary when he was taken at the December 2012 tragedy. To honor Chase and capture his energy and competitive spirit, the Kowalski family founded the CMAK Foundation. CMAK focuses on health and wellness for children and their families, pursuing programs and initiatives that encourage personal improvement, healthy lifestyles, and strong families and communities. CMAK’s cornerstone program is the Race4Chase Kids Triathlon Program which in 2021 will train almost 900 youth over six weeks at thirty sites in four States culminating in a USAT sanctioned youth triathlon, sharing an experience that Chase achieved at six years old.

“We are thrilled to share this opportunity with our CMAK Foundation supporters. Chase was a seven-year old who loved nothing more than running. Our partnership with the 2021 TCS New York City Marathon is such a fitting tribute to Chase’s life and we thank them for the chance to honor his legacy in this manner.”

“Supporting charitable causes and organizations are a long-standing tradition of the TCS New York City Marathon as it serves as one of the world’s largest fundraising platforms,” said Christine Burke, Senior VP of Strategic Partnerships, NYRR.  “The marathon exemplifies the running community’s spirit of giving back, and no group demonstrates that more than the thousands who choose to run for charity. We are proud to support the efforts of the CMAK team and the positive impact they have made to their community.”

The NYRR Official Charity Partner Program offers an opportunity for nonprofit organizations to raise funds to support their missions and services. Participating charities can offer guaranteed entry to runners who fundraise on their behalf.  Access CMAK runner application HERE.

Since its inception in 2006, the TCS New York City Marathon Official Charity Partner Program has raised more than $350 million for more than 1,000 worthy nonprofit organizations across the globe. Prior to the start of the official program, the New York City Marathon had served as an outlet for individual philanthropic runners since the 1980s.

The 2021 TCS New York City Marathon will commemorate the race’s 50th running with runners from all over the world participating in-person and virtually. The marathon began in 1970 and has become one of the most anticipated annual mass sporting events in New York City. This year’s marathon will once again bring together people of all ages and abilities reflecting the resilience and strength of the running community.

About the Chase Michael-Anthony Kowalski (CMAK) Sandy Hook Memorial Foundation:

Chase Kowalski was a first-grader at Sandy Hook Elementary when he was taken at the December 2012 tragedy. To honor Chase and capture his energy and competitive spirit, the Kowalski family founded the CMAK Foundation. CMAK focuses on health and wellness for children and their families, pursuing programs and initiatives that encourage personal improvement, healthy lifestyles, and strong families and communities.

About the Race4Chase:
The CMAK Foundation established the Race4Chase Kids’ Triathlon Program to embody its vision and mission by introducing youth to the sport of triathlon and sharing the experience that Chase Kowalski achieved at such an early age. Race4Chase brings together kids from all different backgrounds and teaches them how to adopt a healthy lifestyle, coaches them to develop a foundation of athletic skills, and inspires them to aim high in sports and in life. The program promotes a greater self-confidence and knowledge for the participants that obstacles can be overcome and success achieved through hard work and dedication. They also are able to share the happiness and camaraderie of being part of a team striving for a similar goal, and feel encouragement and appreciation from their families and community members participating in the culminating event.
Race4Chase Kids Triathlon Program provides opportunities for youth ages 6-12 to learn about, and experience, triathlon at no charge. There are currently 30 Race4Chase program sites across the states of Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and South Carolina. At each program site, youth are introduced to triathlon in a camp setting over a six-week period — culminating in a FINALE event in which participants complete a triathlon.
