I'm taking a moment as spring shifts into summer to say a heartfelt thank you to all of you. The pre-order pick ups went 99% smoothly, with only one case of accidental seedling kidnapping. When I think of almost 100 people coming to the farm to get their babies, multiplied by an average of 12 4-packs each, this is a large number of plants moving successfully from greenhouse to garden--I'm proud of us! And best of all, everyone, even the person whose seedlings got kidnapped, was kind and gentle and golden in their communications, as we've learned to say per Berkshire Waldorf School :) You guys are the best.
Seedlings keep going out to gardens every day as folks stop by the tables at the store to pick up plants. I'll be keeping those tables stocked throughout the summer with seasonally appropriate offerings. There is so much you can plant in successions (cucumbers, summer squash, lettuces, kales, swiss chard, carrots, beets...). There are herbs to establish and augment your perennial gardens and flowers that don't quite care what week of the summer they go into the ground, they just want to bloom for you!
To commemorate Juneteenth, I'll be donating 15% of all purchases made at the seedling tables between June 19 and June 25 to support the anti-racism programming at Soul Fire Farm in Petersburg, NY. Check out their website. They do the most inspiring and amazing work on all fronts to dismantle racism and injustice in our food system.
