Dear Many Mothers Supporters,

I hope this finds you well and enjoying the many gifts of summer.

I want to share with you a story about a family we have been supporting since the beginning of the pandemic. 

“Jessica” is married with an infant and a young child with disabilities. She is also the sole caretaker of an elderly relative who needs constant care. Jessica and her husband both work in the service industry and had to stop working last March when everything shut down. Due to the intense demands of Jessica’s role as a caretaker, she has not been able to go back to work.

Jessica’s family has struggled significantly to pay their utility bills, rent, and car payments over the past year. Zoey, Many Mothers’ Program Manager, has been providing intensive navigation support to help Jessica and her family, including helping the family access enough diapers and food, find rental assistance, find childcare, apply for SNAP benefits, and more.

Jessica recently needed emergency money to repair her vehicle so that she could drive herself and her children to doctors’ appointments and start again at work. With our limited emergency fund, as well as support from Temple Beth Shalom and the Mutual Aid Fund from Earth Care, we were able to help her family repair their only car. While Many Mothers has about a dozen grants at any given time to fund our work, it is only through unencumbered donations that we are able to provide intensive navigation support and emergency financial assistance to families.
