Garden Groups: beginning to meet together as house groups
For 15 months we have been unable to meet together as house groups for fellowship and to learn more about God.  Now, as lockdown eases, we can take advantage of the warmer summer weather and hold some informal Garden Groups.

What is a garden group?
  • A garden group consists of up to 6 people.
  • One member of the group volunteers to host the meeting.
  • We meet in the host’s garden: ideally the host will also have a conservatory or sitting room with French windows, so that in the event of rain or chilly weather we could sit there, with the doors open. (if you choose, the group can circulate round several homes).
  • Notes will be provided, following the passage used in church each Sunday, with a few questions for discussion.
  • One person (not necessarily the same person each week) undertakes to read out the questions – everyone else can then contribute ideas and thoughts. No one needs to know all the answers!!
  • The group will decide whether refreshments are served.
  • The group decides how often they will meet.
  • Garden Groups start at the beginning of July. If you can’t get to all of them, that’s fine.
In September we will hopefully be able to extend this into larger house groups in people’s houses for the winter!

SO: If you would like to join a group, please send your name(s) to Anne Brown and say:
  • If you are willing to host a group if necessary
  • If you are willing to coordinate a group (i.e. choosing a day/time, communicating with the other 5 members of your group)
Please be aware that we can only do this if we have enough potential hosts and coordinators!

Resuming Communion services
We plan to resume our 9.15 Communion services on the first Sunday of the month, beginning on Sunday July 4th.

This will be an informal communion service but will be conducted with reference to the guidelines of the Anglican and Methodist churches.  This will mean:
  • We will only take bread, in the form of wafers. The minister celebrating will take wine on behalf of the congregation.

  • The minister will sanitise their hands, then bring the wafers to the congregation: the congregation will not get up from their seats to go up to the front to take communion.

  • We will not be taking bookings for the first service: we feel that numbers can be managed. If it proves to be a problem (and Covid restrictions are not relaxed as predicted) we will review the procedure before the next month.
From September, if all goes well, we will also include one 10.30 Family Communion per month.
Eldwick Gala
The Gala has been re-arranged for Saturday 14 August.

We would like to offer the church premises as a café but need a bit of help.   The initial plan is to offer refreshments, cakes and scones on the lawn as well as in the church & the Link.

Please can you have a think and sign up for a slot either helping in the kitchen, serving, washing up, taking money or baking a cake/ scones etc. A sign-up sheet is now available.  Alternatively, contact Susan Rishworth or Julie Smith.
The Link Café is now operating indoors.  Opening times are 9.30 am - 12.00 noon on Tuesdays for drinks, home-made scones & cake and 10.00 am - 1.30 pm on Thursdays, which includes light lunches from 11.30 am.
Friday Night Bible Takeaway continues at 7.00 pm each week.
