SKAGIT COMMUNITY

FOUNDATION

"The meaning of life is to find your gift.
The purpose of life is to give it away."

- Pablo Picasso

I remember my first day at college. It was full of little moments of uncertainty: will my lecture notes be good enough, who will I sit by, will I understand my professor?

This fall, 25 of our Skagit students will begin their first days, first terms, and first years of adulthood, learning, and transformation. These young men and women will face similar challenges and experiences as their peers, and they will also have something else: a scholarship from Skagit Community Foundation donors.

Through your generosity, we are sending 25 local students to college this fall with the message, "We believe in you, and we support you."

Scholarships are long-term financial relief and they bring peace of mind. These awards are also a source of pride and a sense of achievement as they begin their journey to realize their dreams.

Thank you for working with us to provide these students' scholarships along with the knowledge that generous people in their community care about them and their future.

- Maddy, Executive Director

Congratulations To Our Partners!

Two of our partner organizations:
Anacortes Family Center & Skagit Valley College Foundation
had ground-breakings in June!

Our most pressing issues facing Skagit County include our lack of affordable housing and the availability of childcare/early childhood education.

Skagit Valley College Foundation's new Sue Krienen Early Learning & Childcare Center, set to open in Spring 2022, is located across the street from Skagit Valley College and will serve about 30 children in partnership with Head Start, with plans to expand.

Anacortes Family Center's new Landing Apartments will be 21 affordable apartments: studio, one-, and two-bedroom units dedicated to households making between 30-50% of the Area Medium Income. The first floor will be an Early Learning program for up to 50 children, run by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Skagit County. Five of AFC's 21-apartments will be reserved for incoming qualifying essential hospital personnel, in partnership with Island Hospital.

These accomplishments are enabled by the generosity of donors in our community and the impressive work of our partner organizations. Thank you for your commitment to meeting essential needs in our Skagit community, and making it a better place for all!
