1. News

Dr. Joseph Beitchman passed away on May 25, 2021. He was an IMS member since 1995. Read about his legacy here. Dr. Beitchman will be dearly missed.

Grad Connection: Navigating Gradlife as Indigenous and Racialized Students - Taking Action
June 23, 2:00 - 4:00 pm

Take a break and connect with other racialized grad students. Share your experiences in an informal setting, talk about your challenges and life as a racialized graduate student. The sessions are hosted by peer facilitators from Academic Success and Clubs and Leadership Development. In this session we will talk about what you need to succeed in grad school and explore: your needs, strengths, and available resources. Grad Escape: Trivia Night (Canada Theme)
June 23, 7:00 - 8:30 pm

If you love trivia, or have been wanting to give it a try, Trivia Night is the event for you. Each Trivia Night will be a low-stakes opportunity for Grad students to connect and take a break! Register here.
Grounding Health Research with Indigenous Knowledge
June 24, 3:30 - 5:00 pm

 
Join us during Indigenous History Month to learn how to bridge clinical practices and health research with equity and Indigenous knowledge with Diane Simon. Diane recently graduated with a Master of Public Health from the Dalla Lana School of Public Health with a collaborative specialization in Health Policy. She is currently engaged in community-based research projects and works as a consultant with the National Aboriginal Council of Midwives. She holds a BHSc in Midwifery and focuses on Indigenous, community-based health services. She is a registered member of the Mi’kmaq Nation and a community activist. Register here.

"There are more than a hundred symptoms that patients who have long COVID can have," said Dr. Angela Cheung. "The common ones are fatigue, brain fog, shortness of breath, feeling their heart racing and difficulty sleeping." PhD Candidate Janessa Griffith recently studied Twitter conversations about the COVID-19 vaccine. “So these were concerns over safety, political or economic skepticism, misunderstandings of information, as well as confusing messaging from authority figures,” she said in this Global News article on Canada's COVID-19 vaccination rate.

Congratulations to our IMS Faculty members who have been awarded Canada Research Chairs:
  • Dr. Isabelle Boileau: New Canada Research Chair - tier two in endocannabinoid imaging in mental illness.
  • Dr. Linda Hiraki: New Canada Research Chair - tier two in genetics of rare systemic inflammatory diseases.
  • Dr. Tarek Rajji: Renewed Canada Research Chair - tier two in neurostimulation in cognitive disorders.
