Story of the Week:
Great Things Happening for “Last Day on Earth”
I just finished filming the music video for, “Last Day on Earth”! Luckily, Nashville provided me a perfect weather day, of beautiful blue skies with a slight breeze to help cool down the hot day. As we drove into the park, the gate guard wasn’t there, and the gate was up to enter. We quickly found out it was “free entrance day”! So, EVERYONE in Nashville was there! Haha☺
I began to panic…. thinking about all the great spots I scouted to film…. and with all the people there…. I may now have many extras in my music video, I didn’t plan for. ☹ We had to park far from the areas we were filming in, and we had gear to carry as well. I was imagining what I’d look like after this hike I was about to go on in the heat. BUT, this is the south, and when someone sees another in need, they quickly come to their rescue! The parking attendant called for a big golf cart shuttle to pick us up and drop us off at our first filming location. So, I started my day in style with a grand entrance. We began filming by a beautiful waterfall. I was a little worried about singing my song and being disruptive to those meandering around but was surprised that the song brought them closer to the area we were filming. They asked my mom and grandma (who flew in from Colorado to help) what I was filming, who I was, what the song was, etc…. So having a lot of people in the park ended up giving me a little audience to perform to as well as helped get my name and song out (every person helps). We continued our day shooting for about 5 hours. The location of the shots was breathtaking and so inspiring. It made my performance so much easier, as I was surrounded by beautiful gardens and dramatic views looking over the thick cover of treetops.
For my Colorado friends, the park we shot at is very similar to the Botanic Gardens in Denver. It's called Cheekwood, named after the Cheek family, who used to own the estate. They had a company, C.T. Cheek & Sons—the largest wholesale grocery distribution conglomerate in the Southeast region of the United States, and they also owned Cheek-Neal Coffee Company, creators and brewers of MAXWELL HOUSE COFFEE and TEA. They purchased the grounds in 1932 right after they sold their coffee company for $45 million (which would be close to a billion dollars today).
My videographer, James, is very creative and we work well together. I’m able to tell him what I want and he totally gets it and knows how to create it. I can’t wait to see the finished product and be able to share it with you – it will be edited in a way that it will take you back and forth from me recording the song in the studio to the ethereal footage we captured at Cheekwood Park to tell the story.
As promised, I have some BTS videos for you from the shoot.
