Nova's Love Story

I cried hard for 10 minutes when I found out Ellie's Rainy Day Fund was going to help. I felt such gratitude and such relief. I want to thank each and every person who has ever donated. You gave my child a second chance. You kept my family together!

Nova's Mom

You know when you look into someone’s eyes and just KNOW you're it for them? That's Nova for me. And me for her! When she greets me at the door with those doughy brown eyes, my heart melts every time. My spirits soar when she brings me her moose or her pink flamingo.

She hardly ever leaves my side, which is good because my fiance travels lots for work and I get very lonely. In fact, Nova sleeps curled around my head at night & lays on the arm of my chair during the day. She lives with two cats (in fact, she cuddles with our 6-month-old kitten) and I think she's decided she's one of them. I'm not sure how this is going to work when she stops being 13 weeks old and gains 70 pounds!

Nova is the light of my life! She's the best thing that ever happened to me & my fiancé. He's a military veteran and since Nova's been around his anxiety has been so much less! He says she has mitigated the stress of his coming home. All I know is that to see him laughing, when he's been too focused on video games and Nova goes over and bites his nose, is priceless.

You can't believe the devastation we felt when we took her to his Dad's & his Dad's normally-sweet dog attacked her. The emergency vet said she had perforations in her abdomen and without surgery she would likely die.

The whole family tried everything to get together the money for the surgery but nothing worked. We were all heartbroken. I thought I was going to have to put down my best friend. She's so young and we were never going to get to see her grow up.

13 year old Whitney had longed for a puppy to join her family for a long time. So this past Spring, she did something about it. She spent her Spring Break researching scientific evidence to back her claim that having a pet is beneficial to kids' development and really to the health of everyone in the family.

Spoiler alert: the photo you see let's you know how it went. Whitney and her sister, Lauren, named their new furry sibling Danny Boy in honor of their grandfather who passed away in December.

Check out her hard work! I guarantee it'll better equip you the next time someone questions your actions with your pet by saying, "it's just a dog" or "it's just a cat."
