The Port of Vancouver is ‘on our doorstep’, and with the sight of ships anchoring daily in English Bay and moving in and out of Port it features strongly in our lives on the North Shore and in the City. But how much do you know about what goes on there?
We are looking forward to welcoming Jason Krott, Manager of Marine Operations and Fleet to our June Members evening, together with Sean Baxter who is Manager of Marine Operations and Assistant Harbour Master.
Marine Operations are responsible for maintaining the safe and efficient movement of marine traffic and cargo within the Port’s jurisdiction. It’s a 24 hours a day, seven days a week operation with office staff, harbour patrol officers and security teams monitoring activities and communicating with other agencies, as necessary.
You may be surprised to learn how many vessels the Port Authority is responsible for each year, how Vancouver’s Port operations compares with Halifax, Montreal and Prince Rupert, and what Vancouver’s global marine activity is likely to look like in the future.
Jason and Sean will present the commercial and the leisure marine overview and will then be happy to chat and take questions.
