Dear TTMHN Member,

You are invited to a special Tasmanian Transcultural Mental Health Network (TTMHN) event:

Healing from collective trauma

Meet the presenters:
Dr Renzo Vittorino is a Psychologist and Director of Practice and Professional Learning at Foundation House. He provides strong leadership in transferring knowledge into practice, program implementation, evaluation, and research. He is interested in implementing individual and family focused therapeutic interventions and group-based programs that are evidence-based, trauma informed and consider the social determinants of health to improve the wellbeing of individuals, families and communities.

He is also an active member of the Australian Psychological Society’s College of Community Psychology currently serving as Treasurer of the National College, Principal Consultant at Psychology Services, a Board approved supervisor, Sessional Lecturer in psychology at Victoria University and Associate Editor of The Australian Community Psychologist

Rosemary Kariuki was recognised as Australia’s 2021 ‘Local Hero’ for her commitment to helping women and children overcome isolation, gender violence, financial distress and language barriers. Her passion for community extends beyond her day job of multicultural liason officer for the New South Wales Police. One of the volunteer organisations she co-founded was the African Women Dinner Dance. The group works with hundreds of mostly African women to overcome the challenges of isolation that many feel. Women share knowledge and experiences through storytelling, dancing, and traditional food, and raise awareness about a range of issues from domestic violence to parenting.

Persecution and human rights violations perpetrated against communities of refugee background are systematic, targeted and aim to destroy those communities for generations. This forum will highlight the importance of integrating a trauma focus in work with communities. The range of possible interventions to support trauma recovery with communities is diverse but all require genuine co-development and implementation with communities.

Join these two fabulous guest speakers to better understand:

  • collective trauma in refugee populations,
  • healing from collective trauma and
  • trauma informed community capacity building and co-design.

Please register and join us through this Zoom meeting link

You are welcome to distribute this invite to your networks, or direct them to the TTMHN website to become a member or receive monthly eNews.
