PEEX Online Meeting 2021 – Sharing Results and Highlights from the PEEX Community
On 28th April 2021, the PEEX Online Meeting took place with more than 80 participants from the Pan-Eurasian region. The Meeting agenda included about 30 oral presentations. The highlights on research topics and science questions were also shared by each presenter to stimulate and expand further collaboration, research and science education activities in the PEEX’s agenda frameworks. Horizon 2020 CRiceS project on Climate relevant interactions and feedbacks

Impact of climate change on different types of cryosphere in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia)
To study the dynamics of permafrost, monthly soil temperatures were selected for the period of its possible thawing at 29 meteorological stations over a long-term period. It was found that at some stations the soil temperature increased stepwise in the late 1980s. Read more.
iCUPE project final science workshop
The online final scientific meeting of the Horizon-2020 iCUPE project took place on  9-10 June to present results and outcomes. All iCUPE project relevant reporting/deliverables and a list of resulted peer-reviewed publications to be available at the iCUPE website. Read more.
Estimation of the tropospheric and stratospheric CO2 content by ground-based IR technique
Measured solar spectra of high spectral resolution possess specific information about the vertical distribution of some atmospheric gases. Such information can be used to retrieve CO2 content in the troposphere and stratosphere. Read more.
Thunderstorms activity – concerns for aviation
Thunderstorms are a common natural phenomenon that significantly affects a flight safety worldwide. In our study (focus on Kyiv International Airport – Zhuliany, Ukraine) 379 cases of thunderstorms were investigated for 2009–2018, including in depth weather-climatological analysis and numerical modeling of thunderstorm activity. Thermal regime of soil active layer at the Bolshevik Island (Archipelago Severnaya Zemlya) during 2016 – 2020 years
Investigations of active soil layer on the Research station “Ice Base Cape Baranova’’ had been started in February 2016 after installation on the meteorological site sensors of Finnish Meteorological Institute. Read more.

Russian Carbon Polygons: PEEX - collaboration meeting of University of Tyumen & UHEL-INAR
The latest Russian Federation initiative is focused on establishing a system of polygons (“carbon polygons”) to measure anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions. The Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation is launching a pilot project to create test sites for development and testing of technologies for monitoring carbon balance. Arctic Circle Assembly 2021
The Assembly will be held on October 14-17, 2021, in Reykjavík, Iceland.
The annual Arctic Circle Assembly is the largest annual international gathering on the Arctic, attended by more than 2000 participants from 60 countries. Read more.
