Hi <<First Name>>,
Welcome to the June highlights!
It has been a great month, some very interesting interviews ranging from the food giant Nestlé to hunting for unicorns in regen ag.
And yes, we are very aware of the fact that we interviewed 4 white men this month :(
We will push hard to change this over the next months!
Enjoy!
Thanks to everyone who has been listening, sharing and participating in this journey!

Discover the Video Course Investing in regen food and ag!
A series of currently 17 short videos (10-15min) plus downloadable pdf slides with our lessons learned after recording over 100+ interviews with investors, fund managers, farmers, scientists since 2016, always asking the question:
"how to put money to work in regenerating soils at scale and growing a lot of tasty food while doing so?"

How to regenerate and calculate the returns in a landscape of 1M ha
Interview with Jasper Bertels, Commonland
LANDSCAPE TECH SERIES!
Topic: A dive into a model which shed some light on the potential returns of landscape scale regeneration and how we can begin to measure and calculate them.
My thoughts:
Very few people would argue we shouldn’t scale up regeneration to a landscape scale, but the immediate question always is: what are the returns? Both financial and non financial. We also talk about the difficulty in calculating returns, the importance of discount rates and investing and leveraging investment funds, among others.

The role of tech in regenerative agriculture from gene editing to nanotech soil sensors
Interview with Waybe Gibbins, New Foundation Farms
Topic:
The conversation dives deep into the role of tech in regenerative agriculture and the darker side of technology such as gene editing and marker-assisted breeding. We also welcome back Mark Drewell as he joins us at the end to share fundraising updates and how investors have responded to the technology angle of New Foundation Farms.
My thoughts:
It is very rare we talk to someone who has gone so deep into the role of tech in regenerative agriculture! We could have talked for hours and hours:) probably not the last time Wayne was on the podcast.

How Nestlé, doing $93 billion a year in sales, is getting serious about regeneration
Benjamin Ware, Nestlé
Topic: This conversation explores the role of large corporations in regenerative agriculture. As this is a transition, it is a slow process so don’t expect Nestlé to buy 100% regenerative products in 10 years and there might be a role for some chemical inputs in the transition.
My thoughts:
We like it or not a large part of the current food system is controlled by large food giants. We need them to change fundamentally to have a chance to change the management on enough hectares to have an impact on the climate, health, water and biodiversity. So I'm very happy to explore the role of these giant companies, the opportunities and, of course, the challenges.

Hunting for unicorns in regenerative agriculture and food
Mark Lewis, Trailhead Capital
Topic:
How far are we gearing towards non-conventional and sustainable farming methodologies? Who are the “unicorns” or the Elon Musks of regenerative food and agriculture? A talk about promising companies that promote regenerative agriculture and their impact on climate change.
My thoughts:
Is the concept of hunting for unicorns even possible in regenerative agriculture? Are we living in a brief moment in time where so much needs to be regenerated (or healed as Mark called it) that outside returns are possible? And, if so, should we be going for that or not? Fascinating conversation :)
