"We learn a lot, for me each workshop is also an opportunity, a rich opportunity for personal learning, to review my values, to question a lot of things. I always step out of the field in shaken Exeko, still touched by something that I question, that makes me think: my privileges, my weaknesses, my insecurities and my strengths, so it's wow! it leans me on essential things."

Maude Blanchet-Léger has met Batone Neto, a philosophical musician and who has been a mediator with us for several years.
“Art as an expression of interiority” is an interview about our caravan, the project with the youth committee of Montreal-Nord and daily mediator work. This article is the first of a series of portraits where you will be able to meet our field teams.
Good read!

in brief

Job offers : Responsible of the development of practices

Our new colleague will have to ensure the continuous development of practices, to take care of the mediation team, to put into place spaces for the reflexivity, recognition, and valorisation of practices, and to orchestrate the communications and influences of the “field” team about the direction of the planning and strategies of Exeko.
A nice challenge for a brand new position in the organisation!

Resilience and solidarity during the time of the pandemic : an audio recording project

We are collaborating with the regional direction of public health of the CIUSS of the Centre-Sud-de-l’île-de-Montréal to create a series of ten audio recordings which will be unveiled July 5th. These stories are the accounts of Montrealers from three neighbourhoods who showed resilience and had taken a step toward others during this year.
To discover next month on the Santé Montréal Youtube Channel.

Call to volunteers for the FestiHOOD

The Festihood is quickly approaching and still needs a few volunteers to join its team. If you can lend us a hand, fill in the form just here.

As a reminder, the Festihood is a day for the distribution of frozen meals as well as wandering artists and circus folk in the North Eastern streets. The Festihood is looking for people to distribute the meals, welcome artists, inform the residents about the distribution of the meals, ensure the safety, etc. Thank you!

Portraits for the right to housing the June 29th
Still in the company of the Caravane Philanthrope, our caravan always stops for creative workshops at the Côte-des-Neiges pastoral (ancient drop-in shelter) with the right to housing as a common thread. To end on a festive note, the portrait-photographs taken this winter will be displayed at the exterior of the building as an invitation to converse with the attendants. This collaboration grows in magnitude in the neighbourhood and brings wonderful perspectives of citizen initiative.

3 workshops about performance anxiety
Mental health awareness is also a matter involving youth. We are continuing our workshops with Espace Jeunes from Prise 2, meetings that are interested about the preoccupations formulated since this winter, which gave food for thought on anxiety and performance pressure.
Always in a co-mediation dynamic, the participants can leave everything up to their imagination; either via writing, drawing, or painting on a thematic topic.
To listen in order to dialogue
Audio recording allows unlikely dialogs between the participants of Singa Québec and the Maison des amis. Both groups uncover themselves in their presentation, each with their questions and their answers. These different conversations characterized by humanity and spontaneity create a social link between two communities who barely know each other. Meanwhile, the workshops of the Maison des Amis continue, on themes of the ideal school or identity.
Go-Jeunesse Workshops / Habitations Jeanne-Mance is collaborating with Manon Massée
During these last weeks, the youth going to Go-Jeunesse, the recreational group installed in the habitations Jeanne-Mance, could participate in a series of social and political reflection workshops in collaboration with our team and the office of the Sainte-Marie-Saint-Jacques member. The discussions addressing the strengths and challenges of the neighbourhood, while thinking about matters of gentrification, urban security and social cohabitation. Being part of a series of workshops that had to be suspended due to the start of COVID-19, this new series of workshops could conclude in beauty with a meeting between the group and Manon Massé. Other participatory democracy workshops will appear thanks to our Lab’ Parole Inclusive!

Collaboration in Wemotaci
The youth council of La Maison des jeunes de Wemotaci has been meeting for several weeks now to carry out projects within their community. A series of meetings will soon take place with Angelie Petiquay, in order to encourage initiative, leadership and empowerment within its creation and realization spaces.

A new collaboration with Projets Autochtones du Québec (PAC)
The participants of the skills development and self-confidence program of Projets Autochtones du Québec residences participated in a series of four workshops. It was in a friendly atmosphere that they met for 3 weeks. The conversations went from philosophy, social analysis, creation, zombie apocalypse, skills, self-confidence, etc. A condensed journey that provoked thoughts, laughter, emotions and poetry.

call to action

[For the end of the emergency state]
We are joining the Ligue des Droits et Libertés and the 60 organisms who signed the declaration "We need to put a stop to the Quebec’s state of emergency" in order to ask the government of Quebec to put a stop to the state of emergency, which has been implemented since March 13, 2020. The extended emergency state and the order-in-council government that are a result of it create a democratic breakdown. It is time to reopen democracy.

Interview with Tiphaine : "le lit de la rivière"
By Maude Blanchet Léger

"On avait des vidéos autant de groupes de gens du quartier, qui luttaient contre la gentrification, ou des personnes dans des logements sociaux et qui faisaient des chansons, autant qu’une vidéo de danse avec des personnes diversifiées, avec une personne disons qui avait une seule jambe, pour aussi modifier les perceptions en ce sens.»
