Coming This Sunday

Sunday, June 27, 2021
Fifth Sunday after Pentecost

A woman finds healing by touching Jesus’ cloak, and a girl is restored to life when he takes her by the hand. In both cases a boundary is crossed: in Jesus’ time the hemorrhaging woman was considered ritually unclean, polluting others by her touch, and anyone who touched a corpse also became unclean. In Mark’s gospel Jesus breaks down barriers, from his first meal at a tax collector’s house to his last breath on the cross as the temple curtain is torn in two. We dare to touch Jesus in our “uncleanness” and to live as a community that defines no one as an outsider.
Readings
Lamentations 3:22-33 + Psalm 30 + 2 Corinthians 8:7-15 + Mark 5:21-43

SATURDAY WORSHIP WITH HOLY TRINITY + 5:00 PM
Pastor Josh Evans will preach and preside at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chicago for their online Saturday evening liturgy. This liturgy will be a Service of the Word (no communion). You are welcome join us on Zoom or on Facebook.

Visit Holy Trinity online for more information.
OUTDOOR EUCHARIST + 8:00 AM
Join us in our beautiful outdoor worship space for an abbreviated liturgy (approx. 30 minutes) with scripture readings, music, prayer, and communion. (Pet-friendly!)

Face masks are optional for outdoor worship.
WORSHIP WITH HOLY COMMUNION + 9:00 AM
Join us in-person or worship online on Facebook or YouTube.

At this time, face masks are required for in-person, indoor worship. Worship is the heart of our community, and in our community, we are committed to “fully including every child of God.” For right now, while some in our community, including children, remain unvaccinated, this means continuing to wear face masks during worship, especially since we are resuming congregational singing.

Welcome, Amanda!

Amanda Smith joins the St. Philip ministry team as our new Communications and Media Coordinator (formerly Parish Administrator), starting Monday, June 28. We are very excited to welcome Amanda aboard, and we'll have an opportunity to officially mark the beginning of her ministry with us in worship on Sunday, July 18 and get to know her at a special coffee hour.
From Amanda:
Hi, my name is Amanda, and I am very happy to be joining this church as the Communications and Media Coordinator. I moved to Illinois in January of this year after spending all of my life in Wisconsin, and I live with my four pets: a cat, dog, and two reptiles. When I am not working, I enjoy being outside either hiking or camping. Pre-pandemic, I was an avid traveler, and I have visited over half the states in the U.S., and I was even fortunate to travel to Tokyo, Japan for a couple of weeks during college. I look forward to getting to know everyone.

You can reach Amanda at cmc@stphilipglenview.org. Send her a note to say "hi!"

Starting next week, Amanda will plan to be in the office on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Similar to her predecessor, much of her work will be able to be done remotely.

Faith Formation

Welcome to Compassion Camp at St. Philip!

Compassion Camp is an intergenerational faith formation program on Thursday evenings in July. Together, we'll share a meal, learn about a Bible story, play games, and do fun activities and crafts - as we change the world with lovingkindness!

Join us from 5:15 - 6:30 PM in the Fellowship Hall!
July 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29

St. Philip seeks to be a safe place that keeps all our community members healthy. We are planning to hold all sessions indoors in our fellowship hall. Consistent with current CDC guidelines, participants who have been fully vaccinated are not required to wear masks. For those who have not yet been vaccinated, we ask that you continue to wear a face covering over your nose and mouth (except during our meal).

Compassion Camp - like our regular VBS programming - is 100% free to all attendees. If you wish to make a one-time, tax-deductible donation to the church to help off-set the cost, you may do so at tinyurl.com/GiveSPLC.

Questions? Please contact Pastor Josh Evans.

Community News & Notes

Every fourth Saturday of the month, volunteers from St. Philip help clean up a stretch of E. Lake Ave. that runs along the northern border of our property. It's a great opportunity to care for God's creation and to help us keep our community looking beautiful for our neighbors. We'll meet at church at 9:00 am on Saturday, June 26. Join us! Questions? Contact Pam Blackstone.
Are you in town on the 4th of July? Are you looking for a unique and easy outreach opportunity to show up in our community as people of faith who welcome and affirm our LGBTQIA+ siblings? Then YOU should definitely sign up to help staff the Glenview Pride tent for the Glenview 4th of July "reverse parade"! This opportunity is sponsored by Glenview Pride. Sign up HERE!

Not a parade staffing kind of person? You can still check out all the 4th of July festivities happening in Glenview HERE on the Park District's website.
An updated church directory is available! Click HERE to access the directory online (password: SPLC5678 - case-sensitive, no spaces). or pick up a copy at church (located in the Parish Administrator mailbox just outside of the office).
On Tuesday, July 6, we will help assemble snack bags for Youth Services' summer camp. Thank you to everyone who has signed up to help purchase supplies, as well as donating your time to assemble the bags with our partners at Youth Services! We now have a full sign-up - hooray! Financial donations are always welcome to help support our ongoing partnership.
We are grateful for your generosity and all the ways this community gives back. Now more than ever, our witness to our community is crucial. We have good news to share, and your financial support helps us do it!
