Leroy Street received an AIA National Library Building Design Award for its recently-completed Sunset Park Library, a derelict courthouse to house one of the busiest, most culturally diverse branch libraries in the BPL system. The project features a series of 2-story custom shade elements, designed and built in collaboration with staff and local students through LSS’s signature participatory community engagement process.

Sited between a wetland preserve and the beach, the Dune House is a warm and refined modern home that highlights the lot’s 270-degree views, and features materials and textures that emphasize the power of its physical surroundings.

LSS Interiors collaborated with PSF Projects Architecture to transform a traditional apartment into a meticulously designed modern duplex. Sympathetic to the building’s architectural heritage, the team deployed classic materials and refined detailing to complement the apartment’s elegant pre-war Art Deco style.

LSS Architect, Kate Bedford, presented the outdoor dining pavilions created for our long-time restaurateur-friends at Charlie Bird and Pasquale Jones at this year’s annual AIA speed design presentation. Created in collaboration with the Living City Project's CityLab program, LSS staff worked with local high school students to research the design, then developed and detailed the custom enclosures. The resultant urban street-front lantern-like dining pavilions, offer a creative solution to help small businesses weather the pandemic.

East Village Homes nears completion as panels, designed in collaboration with local students, are installed on the façade of the affordable housing project. Generated through LSS’s community participatory process, these ornamental metal panels are a tangible, visible element connecting the building to the neighborhood.

LSS’s Park Slope townhouse conversion, a collaboration between the studio’s Architecture, Construction and Interiors departments, topped out.  Framing and preliminary services are proceeding apace.

Leroy Street Studio is designing its first downtown waterfront condominium building, featuring design innovation, craft and detail with BKSK as Executive Architects.

Friday, June 11th marked the opening of a new recurring cultural festival at Forsyth Plaza. Working through the Neighborhoods Now initiative sponsored by Van Alen Institute and Urban Design Forum, Asian Americans for Equality, Think!Chinatown, LSS, di Domenico + Partners, and Buro Happold designed and developed the monthly open-air program to support local vendors, showcase local artists, and activate underutilized public space in neighborhoods hard-hit by COVID-19. Future programming will include live public performances, art installations, and food from neighborhood restaurants.

LSS launched a job shadowing program in partnership with SUNY Delhi. Students joined LSS teams for 1 week, and toured projects with our staff. Two SUNY Delhi students are joining our team as summer interns this year.
