Happy two-year anniversary to us...

On June 21, 2018, we hosted a groundbreaking celebration, marking the beginning of Rotary Hospice’s construction. One year later, on June 22, 2019, we celebrated our opening with the public, and started our service to the community. It has been two years of incredible experiences, and people, along the way.

These special dates were chosen because of their connection to the summer solstice, which we see as symbolic of hospice and its role in helping families. The solstice represents rebirth, and the cycle of life that all nature goes through. Summer is a time of growth, in which nature reveals itself to us in its most vivid form, and fully transcends the marks still left from the frigid winter. Hospice, too, represents rebirth of a kind. It connects families and allows them to deal with the difficulties of loss and brings comfort to those that are passing on.

It is in this spirit of reflection that we wish to recognize the community members, volunteers, and staff that have allowed Rotary Hospice to become a reality. Without you, we would not be able to provide our service to the community, and for that help and all of you who continue to support, we are forever grateful.

The Empty Chair

"When I first walked into the room of a woman who was dying, I was a little taken back by how dark it was. It didn’t feel as though this was her choice, in fact it felt as though consideration was not taken for her or what she might want. She was dying alone, although she had a staff of private caregivers, who for the most part took wonderful care of her, but no one was at her bedside and her room was far too dark for someone who was dying. At least in my opinion". To read more

Indigenous History and Pride Month

Amongst many holidays, June is Indigenous History Month and Pride Month. It is a time to celebrate diversity, acknowledge their history, the hardships endured and the accomplishments by those who identify as Indigenous or LGBTQ2S Community.

Diversity, equity and inclusion help to ensure that our home is inviting and safe for anyone at end-of-life. No one should miss out on the benefits of hospice care for any reason.

Meditation for Grief and Loss

The Mindfulness & Grief Institute shares, Meditation for grief does not change what has happened, but it can help you care for yourself with the compassion you deserve. It can also help you with a variety of symptoms associated with the grieving process, and help you feel more in control. No matter where you are on your grief journey, meditation is a healing practice that can help you:
  • Get back to sleep and counteract grief-related insomnia.
  • Reduce physical pain and tension
  • Ease difficult emotions
  • Cultivate compassion for yourself and others
  • Establish and maintain a connection with your loved one
  • Improve your immune functioning and overall health
  • Increase your ability to focus and concentrate
