A Message from the Director
Community Survey Feedback

First, I’d like to say thank you to all those who took the time to respond to our recent Community Survey. The feedback from our community helps us with planning and decision making.

While reading through the responses I noticed some things that need clarification, so I’ll share the reasons behind some of our policies and practices.

Access to Popular Titles – We do take reservations for titles, and once we have 5 reserves for a title we purchase an additional copy.

Renewal of Library Cards – TDL library cards are issued for two years and then need to be renewed. This is the way we make sure the information we have on file is accurate. It’s surprising how often people forget to let us know when they change email addresses or phone numbers! Because the library card involves financial responsibility, we ask that patrons renew in person.

Fireplace – On cooler days, please ask if you’d like the fireplace on. We are happy to oblige!

Tween Nonfiction – We do have a tween nonfiction section. You’ll find it right next to the tween fiction.

Worn and Damaged Books – We “weed” our collection on a yearly basis, and our dedicated volunteers work on the collection each week, making sure books are in the correct place and are in good condition. Please bring any damaged or worn books to our attention.

Replacement Books – If a book checked out to a patron gets too damaged to circulate, we replace it, with the patron paying for the replacement copy and the $5 processing fee. Processing involves adding the book to our computer catalog, covering the book with plastic to protect it, adding labels, stamps, security tape, and finally getting it back on the shelf.

Programming Geared Toward Older Folks – We try to provide programming for a variety of interests and activity levels. While this summer’s kayaking, hiking and pickle ball programs may be too physical for some, there is sure to be something of interest on our extensive list of programs!

We certainly appreciate the many comments and suggestions we received through the survey. Due to survey requests we will be adding an evening book club beginning in September, and we’ve added some new subscriptions to our magazine section. We are currently in the process of evaluation and implementation, so watch for other changes as well.

Your opinion matters!

Kindest Regards,

Susan Bach
