Kia ora

Planting season is underway and it's heartening to see communities getting involved as we saw in Martinborough last week with 50 school children working alongside South Wairarapa Biodiversity Group to plant over 300 native trees. There are plenty more community planting days planned so spread the word and give our groups a hand.

Planting is also happening on farms and at a large landscape-scale with Wainuioru Community River Care Group planting 100,000 trees this year and the Aorangi Restoration Trust set to plant 42,500 trees as part of the Tonganui Corridors Project.

The collective impact of all this mahi is significant - contributing to increased native biodiversity, healthier waterways, the removal of CO2 from our atmosphere and more resilient communities. Let's keep it up!

While the mahi is happening on the ground, we have been busy behind the scenes working on a funding agreement for region-wide coordination of Catchment Communities. Whilst we are not able to release the details of the agreement yet, we are seeking interest from those keen to join a Steering Group to guide the process.

We are also looking for people to join our workstream groups to help develop action plans and get projects underway. The six workstreams were developed from feedback at our hui earlier this year. See below for further details.

Catchment Communities Steering Group

WaiP2K is seeking expressions of interest for a Catchment Communities Steering Group. The Steering Group will be responsible for developing and monitoring the implementation of a region-wide plan for farmer-led Catchment Community Group establishment, development and ongoing support. If you would like to be involved or would like to receive the Terms of Reference, please get in touch before Friday 9 July at kiaora@waip2k.org.nz.

Contribute to Workstream Planning and Action

WaiP2K are setting up planning sessions for our six workstreams: Catchment Communities, Communications, Education, Large Landscapes, Data Gathering and Mapping and Predator Control. These are based on feedback we gathered from the hui that helped informed our key areas of focus. Workstream planning is where we take your ideas and work together on making them a reality. It is where the action is and you don't have to be a forum member to join a workstream. If you are interested in being involved in a workstream, get in touch at kiaora@waip2k.org.nz.
