World’s Most Premature Baby Celebrates
His First Birthday After
0% Odds of Surviving
Everyone loves when the underdog wins,
so it's no surprise that this little guy is winning
hearts all over the world.
Little Richard Scott William Hutchinson,
celebrated his first birthday on June 5th,
is recorded as the most prematurely born
baby in the Guiness world records.
Richard’s mom Beth went into
premature labor 131 days early, and
he weighed a mere 11.9 ounces
and measured 10.2” in length when he was born.
His gestational age clocked in at only 21 weeks
and two days old.
After the prematurely born baby Richard was
sent for care to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
(NICU) at Children’s Minnesota hospital
in Minneapolis, his parents were told he was going to
die, with a 0% chance of survival, statistically.
But little Richard set out to prove the doctors
wrong— and that’s exactly what he did.
