COVID-19: mental health and wellbeing surveillance report
Public Health England has published its latest report on population mental health and wellbeing in England during the COVID-19 pandemic. The evidence indicates that self-reported mental health and wellbeing worsened during the first national lockdown. The report includes updates regarding mental health experiences within different groups and takeup of mental health support.

Substance misuse treatment for young people: statistics 2019 to 2020 indicate prevalence of multiple disadvantage
Public Health England has published the latest set of data for alcohol and drug treatment for under-18’s. The report outlines that young people often enter specialist substance misuse services with a range of problems or vulnerabilities related to (or in addition to) their substance use, including using multiple substances, having a mental health treatment need, being a looked after child or not being in education, employment or training (NEET).

MoJ grants for women’s community organisations
The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has launched a grant programme for specialist women’s community organisations to support the delivery of the Female Offender Strategy. The MoJ is offering grants between £40,000 and £100,000 to organisations providing gender-specific services for women in the criminal justice system. Applications are open until 10am on 16th July 2021

New rough sleeping funding announced
The Minister for Homelessness and Rough Sleeping, Eddie Hughes has announced a £30 million partnership between the Ministry of Housing Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) and Big Society Capital, a leading social impact investor. The 3 year pilot, which will run in Greater Manchester, London and Teeside will provide £30 million of funding to deliver over 200 move-on homes for people sleeping rough and those at risk of homelessness.

Updated COVID-19 guidance for hostel services
On 9 June 2021 the MHCLG published updated guidance for commissioners and providers of hostel services for people experiencing homelessness and rough sleeping in the light of Covid-19. The guidance covers hostels with individual self-contained rooms with en-suite facilities that have shared kitchens; and hostels without individual self-contained rooms and that have communal facilities. It does not cover night shelters.

London’s first dedicated detox unit for homeless people set to open
The Ministry of Housing Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) has published details of London’s first dedicated hospital detox unit for homeless people which is set to open on 14 June. The service has been jointly developed between Public Health England, the Greater London Authority, the City of London Corporation and St Thomas Hospital, and will support people who sleep rough to safely withdraw from alcohol and drugs.

Clinks has published a blog with updates on its work towards becoming an anti-racist organisation. The blog explores the language and messaging the organisation will use to describe inequality and racism within the criminal justice system.

NHS Providers has published a report ‘Providers deliver: collaborating for better care’ featuring 14 innovative cases studies which showcase successful cooperation between providers in the acute, mental health, community and ambulance sectors, working together and with local partners.

Consultation on domestic abuse support within safe accommodation
The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government is seeking views on the draft statutory guidance for new duties on local authorities to provide domestic abuse support in safe accommodation in England. The consultation closes on the 27th July.

Ministry of Justice survey for women with lived experience
The Ministry of Justice has launched two surveys and is inviting feedback from racially minoritised or non-British national women with lived experience of the criminal justice system, focussing on staff training in the criminal justice system. Take the survey here.

Ministry of Justice survey for Local Leadership and Integration Fund
The Ministry of Justice is trying to understand the experience of organisations that have engaged with the Local Leadership and Integration Fund (LLIF). The LLIF is part of the Prison Leavers Project and is focused on funding locally led approaches to improve prison leaver outcomes and reduce reoffending. Take the survey here.

Anti-Racism – Leadership, policy and practice within the homeless sector
Homeless Link is running a free webinar on the 6th July focusing on practical tips on how homelessness services and projects can be actively anti-racist and inclusive, the importance of using a Trauma-Informed approach when undertaking any anti-racist work and Homeless Link's new equality, diversity and inclusion strategy.

Human Learning Systems
The Centre for Public Impact has just published a new ebook on Human Learning Systems. There is an accompanying website which includes case studies on organisations which have been leading this change to implement Human Learning Systems in practice. The resources cover various approaches to leading, funding and managing all forms of social intervention and public service, from national governments through to local voluntary sector organisations.

Autism, alcohol and other substances
Alcohol Change UK is running a half-day online event looking at the links between autism, the use of alcohol and other substances and treatment outcomes for autistic service users.

Probation commissioning: day one services and beyond
On the 6th July Clinks is hosting a criminal justice forum on probation services, to provide a policy update on the commissioning of ‘day one’ and other services once the probation service reunifies on the 26th June. You can sign up here.
