Welcome to our June newsletter!

In this month's newsletter we turn our thoughts and attention to the future, planning for the remainder of the school year and towards the one ahead. 

With this in mind, this month's newsletter looks at effective assessment and feedback strategies, using education technology and how evidence-based guidance can support schools in the academic year ahead.

NEW GUIDANCE ON TEACHER FEEDBACK
The EEF has published their latest guidance report – Teacher Feedback to Improve Pupil Learning –which reviews the best available research to offer schools six recommendations which support teachers in delivering feedback effectively.

SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT PLANNING RESCOURCES PAGE
The School Improvement Planning Resources Page from the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) is an excellent resource to support schools in shaping their priorities and planning changes for the year ahead.

It signposts high-quality, evidence-informed resources to support decision making around key areas such as utilising diagnostic assessment, maximising learning and curriculum adaptation.

EVENTS AND TRAINING
Developing Literacy in Primary schools
Developing Literacy in Primary Schools - *NEW* programme for Autumn 2021.

This NEW 9 module programme is due to be launched in the Autumn Term and will be led by Anne Harvey, our Primary Phase Literacy ELE. Participants will be taken through the clear, actionable recommendations for teachers in the EEF's three literacy-based guidance reports.  They will receive support to tackle a range of high-priority issues in reading, writing, speech and communication, based on the best available evidence.

This programme will be suitable for primary school senior leaders, literacy leads and English subject leads from right across the region.

Effective Learning Behaviours
Effective Learning Behaviours - *NEW* programme for Autumn 2021.

We are planning the delivery of a NEW modular programme, based upon Effective Learning Behaviours. Discover how the EEF are using the theme of ‘Learning Behaviours’ to encapsulate all the guidance around 5 key areas of evidence.  School leaders from across Somerset will see the recommendations in these guidance reports brought to life, with the aim of developing more effective learners across the county.

Suitable for Somerset primary and secondary school leaders.

The EEF is currently looking for schools to take part in five trials of high-potential projects, including:

Early Years: Maths ChampionsImpact of Covid-19 on primary school startersTEEM UP
Key Stages 1 and 2: Headsprout Early Reading in Special SchoolsTEEM UP
Key Stage 3-5: KEEP Teaching
Register to deliver the Nuffield Early Language Intervention
Registration is open for schools looking to deliver the Nuffield Early Language Intervention programme next year.

Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis, with registration closing when all places have been offered or when the registration window closes on 30th July 2021.

 
LATEST NEWS 
DELTA Programme Launch

This month we have been delighted to launch the DELTA project to over 90 schools, working together with the EEF and in close partnership with Bristol City Council.

This ground-breaking project is aimed at breaking the link between family income and educational attainment across the city.

Coordinated and delivered by West Somerset Research School, the project will draw on national and local expertise to deliver high-quality training and also provide follow-up support to help schools explore, prepare, deliver and sustain the approaches most likely to impact on pupil outcomes in their setting. This exciting project is part of Bristol’s innovative approach to mobilising evidence for the benefit of all children and will continue through the next academic year.
