The primary mission of Swiss Biobanking Platform is to support Biobanks in the development of their governance and quality strategies, to facilitate access and optimal use of their biological resources.
Biobank SQAN has been developed as an essential tool to harmonize and promote quality for Biobanks.
|
|
|
Thanks to this innovative web-based solution, it is possible to evaluate the practices of a Biobank and then make relevant recommendations to enable the Biobank to reach a higher level of quality.
|
|
The process
Biobank registration on biobanksqan.ch
Completion of an online questionnaire with about 250 questions covering multiple fields of biobanking
Score calculation based on the Biobank answers
Review of answers and key documents (e.g. governance, SOPs)
Summary of findings into a report and proposal of an action plan and support documentation for the gaps that were identified
|
|
The labels
Through Biobank SQAN labels are delivered as a recognition for compliance with the following minimal requirements:
Ethical and legal issues for the VITA label (governance)
Operational issues for the NORMA label (process)
Quality issues for the OPTIMA label (QMS)
Every year, an annual update is conducted to validate the label(s).

|
SBP NExT
Biobanks and labelled infrastructures will finally be listed in the SBP NExT, our interactive e-catalogue that gives access to the Swiss Biobank network and its contact persons.

Please give us your FEEDBACK!
SBP NExT is still in development (beta), so try it, break things and help us to make it as useful as possible. We are looking forward to hearing from you!

BBMRI-ERIC: Survey
BBMRI-ERIC’s work programme 2021 has been approved paving the way for additional exciting projects starting this year.
Hereby, Task Forces will provide a new format to commonly address strategically important and scientifically exciting topics.
This survey will inform you which Task Forces will be launched. It will also allow you to indicate in which of them you’d like to participate.
Overall, Task Forces (TFs) will be groups of interested, volunteering colleagues to work on a particular topic temporarily until the goal of that specific TF has been achieved. The TFs will be based on in-kind contributions by staff of BBMRI-ERIC National Nodes, affiliated biobanks and/or BBMRI-ERIC expert centers. The goals and milestones of each TF should be further specified once the TF has been formed. Two co-chairs per TF will be elected while coordination can be supported through the BBMRI-ERIC Headquarter.
Invitations to the kick-off meetings will follow to those of you indicating their interest. Please submit your selection of one or more TF(s).
Looking forward to kick-off the Task Forces together with you.
Sincerely,
Jens Habermann
Director General BBMRI-ERIC
