AIDE Updates

Greetings from the AIDE Team! This month's newsletter contains Panopto milestones and new training sessions, new hours for AIDE return to campus, Moodle  updates, and PD opportunities.  As always, if you have questions or are interested in learning more, contact us at aide@bhcc.edu.

The AIDE Team Returns to Campus with New Hours

Beginning on Monday August 2, the AIDE team will be returning to campus with new hours.

Moodle

Course Accesses and Visibility

Moodle courses are created for all BHCC courses.

Access to Course:

• Faculty can access and edit their Fall 2021 courses from the Moodle Dashboard starting July 29.

• If you would like to build your content sooner, you can request a temporary Moodle course space.

• Students can access their course on the first official day of class. The “First Day” is determined by the course start date listed in the Student Information System, Colleague.

Import Moodle Content From Previous Semesters

Visit the Moodle Course Management page of the AIDE Resources ePortfolio for information about merging courses, adding ACE mentors, and much more! Contact us at aide@bhcc.edu if you have any questions.

Check Start Date of Course:

• Faculty can check the start date in the Self-Service “Course Description.”

Visibility of Course:

• Faculty can make their Moodle courses visible to students before the first day. Learn how to “Show your course site” early.

Preparing Students for the First day of Class:

There are many ways you may choose to teach in this "remote" world that we find ourselves in. A key thing to consider is how we notify our students "what to do or where to go on the first day of class." While emailing students can be effective, we also welcome you to post "first day of class" information on Moodle. Here is our resource on how to post first day of class information. Our team would also be happy to do this on your behalf. Simply email your "first day of class" information along with your syllabus to aide@bhcc.edu and we'll post it in your Moodle course.

Panopto End User Training & Milestones

We're excited to announce another training schedule for our new video captioning vendor, Panopto. Please save the date.

Our AIDE website and AIDE resource ePortfolio have been updated to include resources on using Panopto, including the recorded webinar sessions from our Panopto End-User Training sessions.

Project Milestones:

• Videos are being migrated from TechSmith to Panopto. Expect your TechSmith Videos to appear in Panopto by the end of August.

• Access to the TechSmith site will be discontinued on 9/15/2021.

Note: Fall course imports will need to relink any videos to the new Panopto site.

Here are a few ways to add your Panopto videos into your Moodle course:

How to Add Panopto Videos to your Moodle course using the External Tool.
Copy The Link of your Panopto Video then Add a URL.

If you need help to link your Panopto videos on your Moodle course, our team would be happy to support you via email or by virtual drop-in.

Digication ePortfolio & OER

The AIDE Team will host a set of Webinars that review how faculty and staff can use ePortfolios as Open Educational Resources. Join Matt Gomes and Ceit De Vitto to learn what ePortfolios are, how to use it’s basic tools and how OER and e-Portfolio can work together, to make more engaging assignments.  Look out for more information in the coming weeks. Hybrid Teaching Institute

The Hybrid Teaching Institute is an engaging professional development opportunity designed to help prepare faculty to offer their courses through a blend of asynchronous and synchronous instruction. Designed by the facilitators of Online Learning Toolkit, experts in teaching and learning, the Hybrid Teaching Institute is dedicated to making the hybrid course design process accessible and enjoyable for faculty at every level of teaching and technology experience. This institute will focus on simplifying hybrid course design by introducing faculty to sustainable processes and easy to apply design templates.
