IMF Calls for Innovative Ideas for Green Policies with a New Challenge
The IMF has launched a climate innovation challenge to gather ideas on how to integrate climate change into our economic analysis and to promote green policies. Country authorities, think tanks, civil society groups and international organizations are all invited to submit proposals that have the potential to enhance the IMF’s capacity development, policy advice and operational impact in areas where economic and financial policies intersect with climate change. New Japan-IMF Scholarship Program Graduates Pledge Future Contributions
A new batch of graduates completing their master’s and PhD programs under the Japan-IMF Scholarship Program for Asia celebrated their achievements at a series of events ending with a farewell ceremony in June. Representing 35 officials from 13 Asia-Pacific countries, Nur Putri Cahyo Utami of Indonesia’s Central Bureau of Statistics said: “The graduation is just the beginning. Our contribution to our countries and institutions is certainly awaited after we return to our home countries!” JISPA, which is funded by Japan and administered by the IMF Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, has generated more than 800 alumni across Asia since 1993. Asian Audience Interacts with IMF Economists at a Fiscal Policy Seminar
About 200 people from 23 countries in the Asia-Pacific region listened in to presentations on fiscal responses to COVID-19 by economists who authored the April edition of the Fiscal Monitor at a virtual regional seminar hosted on June 15 by the IMF Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific. Three economists from the Fiscal Affairs Department shared key points from their analytical work and policy advice. Senior Economist Raphael Lam recommended that fiscal policies focus on scaling up public investment in the recovery, strengthening social protection and reforming tax systems. OAP Joins APEC Meeting for Finance Officials
OAP Deputy Heads Jonathan Dunn and Jochen Schmittmann attended the APEC 2021 Senior Finance Officials’ Meeting on June 22 and 23. Schmittmann provided remarks on macroeconomic and structural policies at the start of the first session, during which APEC economies discussed policies to defeat the pandemic and secure a robust, equitable and green recovery. / IMFアジア太平洋地域事務所の次長2人は6月22-23日、APEC会議に出席しコロナ禍からの回復と復興について議論しました。

Video on Outlook Presentation in Japanese Is Out
A recording of the webinar on the economic outlook by OAP Director Chikahisa Sumi was released on June 4. In the webinar hosted by the Research Institute of Economy, Trade and Industry (RIETI), Sumi shared IMF policy recommendations to address the divergent recovery from the pandemic based on the latest edition of the World Economic Outlook and IMF regional studies. Int’l Students at Keio Learn about IMF Career Opps
OAP joined a career forum for students in the English-taught economics program at Keio University on June 19. Along with 10 other global companies and international organizations, OAP presented IMF career opportunities to 100 students and hosted breakout sessions with a Keio alumnus and economist of the IMF Strategy, Policy and Review Department to interact with small groups of students.
