COVID-19: Extension of Relaxed In-Person RCR Training Requirement
In April 2020, NIH announced that the In-Person RCR Training Requirement was relaxed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This short-term modification applies to postdoctoral, physician, T32/F32 fellows, and K awardees who have a start date prior to 1/1/2021 and have not yet completed all of their in-person RCR training.
The NIH has recently announced that these “COVID flexibilities” will continue as long as the public health emergency is in place. The Research Institute will extend the relaxed the in-person RCR component of the training and will accept completion of the online CITI RCR course, Responsible Conduct of Research for Postdocs, Fellows, Trainees, and NIH Early Career Investigators, as fulfillment of the institutional training requirement at least through December 31, 2021. CITI RCR must be completed within your current career stage or within the past 4 years. Additional guidance will be provided as this situation evolves.
The Office of Academic Training and Outreach Programs (ATOP) will resume in-person RCR sessions when it is safe to do so and is offering a new series of virtual RCR-related session options during 2021. These virtual sessions are open to the entire CHOP research community and highly recommended for individuals planning to move into a faculty position or apply for NIH research funding.
