With the recent, and somewhat sudden, arrival of cold and wet weather, the Grief Centre of Western Australia sends you warm wishes for the season ahead.

As the days get shorter and colder, we naturally seek warmth and comfort, which often brings us more closely in touch with our grief. When these heightened feelings of loss or solitude surface, remember that we are here to provide support and understanding.

In this edition of the newsletter, meet the newest member of the GCWA Team - our Business Development Manager, Susan Swift, sift through our latest Annual Report, and check out all of our upcoming events, including our Annual High Tea.  For those rainy days stuck inside, we also have some readings to guide you through those times when we might need a gentle reminder that our grief is ultimately about love.

Stay warm, stay safe, and remember we are always here for you as move forward on your grief journey.

With Blessings and Warmth to our community,
from the Team at the Grief Centre of Western Australia.
OUR COMMUNITY
A warm welcome to our newest GCWA member, Susan Swift.

I am thrilled to be joining the Grief Centre of WA in the role of Business Development Manager. It is exceptionally exciting times ahead for the organisation as it begins to transition to more formalised systems and business processes allowing us to take on more clients, projects and partnerships. This will enable the Grief Centre to become the preeminent provider of specialist grief support services within Western Australia.

My employment background with extensive experience in business both in large public companies and as an owner/operator, has enabled me to gain significant commercial insight into a wide variety of sectors, not for profit, technology, professional services and retail. I have managed large marketing and sales teams plus worked at executive and board level.

My passions are my family, yoga, swimming and cooking. I am also an avid reader and have just finished reading “The Elephant Whisperer” by Lawrence Anthony - an incredibly inspirational, entertaining and moving story.

I look forward to meeting you all along the way and please don’t hesitate to contact me at susan.swift@griefcentrewa.org.au if you’d like to touch base or have any feedback or ideas on Business Development.

2019/20 ANNUAL REPORT
As we approach the end of another Financial Year, it's important to look back and reflect on our growth, acknowledge our supporters, and celebrate our achievements. The Covid-19 pandemic has certainly had an impact on a global scale, and more close to home the associated trauma, grief, and loss has also affected many of our lives.

Download the 2019/20 Annual Report to read more about our challenges and successes over the past year, and how the Team at the Grief Centre continued to provide support and grow the organisation.

READING LIST

For those rainy days at home, we also have some readings to guide those times when you might need a gentle reminder that feelings of grief and loss are ultimately all about our love.
  • The Untethered Soul: The Journey Beyond Yourself, by Michael A Singer.  This gentle, easy read guides how an open heart can heal our hurts and help us embrace life again after difficult times.
  • Option B: Facing Adversity, Building Resilience, and Finding Joy, by Sheryl Sandberg.  In this moving and inspiring book, Sheryl shares her experience of grief and her reassessment of her life and priorities after the sudden death of her husband. The Option: B website (below) has further grief resources along with stories from others who have found new meaning and purpose through their experience of grief and loss.
Grief is a journey, not a place to stay.
