Plus, 9 local LGBTQ-owned restaurants to support today and all year long.

By Katie Johnston

Hello and welcome to Wednesday, friends.

Did you hear? The Dr. Phillips Center for Performing Arts is extending its Frontyard Festival through December. The Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved $500k in funding on Tuesday to keep the party going through the end of the year.

If you haven’t been to check out the outdoor event series yet, I encourage you to go. It’s a dang good time. So far, I’ve watched “Hedwig and the Angry Inch,” frequented Fusion Fest 2021, and enjoyed a few shows. 10/10 would recommend.

For now, let’s get you all caught up on this week’s food and drink news, shall we?

We get this view for at least six more months. 📸: @drphillipsctr | Wanna see your photo here? Tag either #pulptown or @pulptown on Instagram to be featured as our IG of the Day!

What Orlando is talking about

🍦 Our friends over at Greenery Creamery have created a hot dog from ice cream with their pals and local YouTuber sensations, Hellthy Junk Food. Mark your calendars: The cool cold treat will be available starting July 11. (Orlando Weekly

🍨 Speaking of ice cream, PNW-favorite sweet shop Salt and Straw is coming to Disney Springs. The Portland-based ice cream shop will make its Florida debut in 2022. (WKMG

🍗 There’s a new Korean fried chicken concept opening in Mills 50. National franchise Bb.q Chicken is taking over the former Tasty Wok storefront on Colonial though no specific opening date has been set. Meanwhile, Tasty Wok is moving across the street to a bigger location. (Bungalower

🌈 It’s still Pride Month, y’all, and our buds at Tasty Chomps have rounded up nine of their favorite local LGBTQ+-owned restaurants for you to try. Every month is a good month to eat at these places, but now’s a good time as any to try out their rainbow-themed menu items. (Tasty Chomps

💰 Universal Orlando is currently hiring for more than 1,000 food jobs. The theme park giant is looking for both full and part-time positions and just earlier this year, upped its minimum wage to $15 an hour. (News 13

🍍 The Pinery is now open in Ivanhoe. The Florida-forward high-brow eatery has opened in the bottom of the Lake House apartments and from the looks of it, is on its way to steal your hearts and money. (Bungalower

🎟 There’s a new adults-only, Vegas-style show opening at I-Drive’s Pirate’s Dinner Adventure next month. Teatro Martini is set to debut July 1 and will bring with it pole dancers, hula hoop artists, magicians, and more. (WKMG

One more thing

In case you missed it, yesterday we unveiled our new “bracket” series where every three to four months, we’ll choose a new category and then host a six-week voting period of the best of the best Orlando has to offer.

We’re starting off with the Ultimate Orlando Beer Bracket. To participate, all you have to do is a) tell us your favorite local brew and why it’s the Ultimate Orlando beer. Then, you’ll spend the next five weeks rooting on your favorite to the “playoffs”.

Who advances in each round is strictly based on the number of votes for that round. So every vote in every round counts! Fun, right?

Okay, glad you agree. If you’ve got questions, just hit reply or email me at hello@pulp.town. And in the meantime, be sure to submit your nominations between now and 12 p.m. on Monday.

Enjoy your hump day, folks!

See you bright and early (unless you’re a late riser like me)!
