- Rachel Wilfert led a partnership with the North Carolina Department of Instruction's Healthy Schools Section to launch the Virtual School Staff Training Center. The website provides North Carolina teachers, school nurses, administrators, and other school staff with a free resource with online training, guides and resources on topics ranging from communicable disease management to social emotional learning. Funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention made this exciting collaboration possible.

- Amy Belflower Thomas and Lori Rhew developed interactive curriculum for the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE) for a pilot 18-month leadership program for mid-career epidemiologists – LEAD: Leading Epidemiologists, Advancing Data. The program goals for CSTE LEAD are two-fold: 1) Enhance the applied epidemiology workforce, and 2) Develop leaders for CSTE activities. Topics our team developed for the the program include decision making as a team leader, strategic communications, providing expert testimony, and women in leadership.
- In support of the North Carolina Community Foundation’s (NCCF) North Carolina Healing Communities Fund, Matt Simon created an interactive online map and dashboard detailing the COVID-19 philanthropic funding in each North Carolina County since the beginning of the pandemic. NCIPH helped establish a baseline with data from March 2020 to Jan 2021 and recently completed an update from May 2021 reflecting the NCCF’s targeted effort at reaching “marginalized communities that have been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic.”

- The North Carolina Local Health Department Accreditation Program released its 2019-20 annual report! This year's annual report highlights the work of individuals who are working in their communities and supporting large-scale quality improvement efforts for the accreditation program.

E-Learning Expertise!
Lori Rhew just completed a six-month online fellowship with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s E-Learning Institute (ELI)! The ELI offers access to CDC-developed materials and subject matter experts, as well as the opportunity to learn from peers in a positive, experiential environment.

We're Hiring!
Want to help build the capacity of frontline public health professionals in North Carolina? Our Workforce Training and Education Team develops and delivers training programs for the public health workforce that help them better serve their communities. This new team member will function as an Online Learning Specialist and support the creation of online courses and e-learning modules. Learn more and apply.

Upcoming Training Opportunities

With reflection from program participants, alumni, and other public leaders, the regular North Carolina Public Health Leadership Institute (NCPHLI) will be on pause in 2021-22 in order to offer a leadership program specifically focused on building leadership skills around equity.
The NCPHLI Leading with Equity Series program will run September 2021 – May 2022 and consist of monthly formal online learning sessions with a possible additional in-person session (based on participant schedules, flexibility, and/or ongoing pandemic impacts). Applications are open until July 30, 2021.

PAA/STD ERRN Course Enrolling Now
|
|
|
Applications are open for the Fall 2021 of our Physical Assessment of Adults and STD Nurse Clinician Training Combined Practicum Course! Enhanced role nurses who complete this training can provide important, billable services for their local health department, including STD screenings and breast and cervical cancer screenings. As always, the course will be taught mainly online!
