As you read this, I am heading home from vacation. Many of us have finally had, or are looking forward to, the experience of getting away from the tough routines of the past year-plus, and it brings home the fact that God doesn't suggest rest, but commands it. Eugene Peterson, whose biography I recently read, has written, "Sabbath is the time set aside to do nothing so that we can receive everything, to set aside our anxious attempts to make ourselves useful, to set aside our tense restlessness, to set aside our media-satiated boredom. Sabbath is the time to receive silence and let it deepen into gratitude, to receive quiet into which forgotten faces and voices unobtrusively make themselves present, to receive the days of the just completed week and absorb the wonder and miracle still reverberating from each one, to receive our Lord's amazing grace.”

This Week's Highlights

WELCOME KATELYN EMERSON!
With Michael Fisher on vacation the next two Sundays, we are delighted to welcome well-known concert artist Katelyn Emerson to the organ bench at Emmanuel. You can learn more about her at

YOUNG ADULT MINISTRY
If you know a young adult, are a young adult, or have a passion for young adult ministry, let Marisa know! Emmanuel's last YA event was a blast, and Marisa doesn't want to miss communicating with anyone who might like to come. Update your Breeze profile or contact Marisa and she'll make sure you're receiving upcoming announcements.

GOT GRATITUDE?
We will not designate one Sunday for an in-person United Thank Offering this year, but if you are grateful and would like to express that by participating in the UTO process, you may give anytime this summer via your Breeze app or on our website or by mailing a check to the church. However you give, be sure to indicate UTO in the memo line or comment field!

NOMINATIONS OPEN FOR THE 12TH BISHOP
The Election Committee for the Twelfth Bishop is pleased to announce that the Diocesan Profile  is now available, and the Nomination and Application processes  are open for use. The Episcopal Diocese of Springfield now invites qualified candidates to discern whether God may be calling them to serve the church of Jesus Christ as the 12th Bishop of Springfield.  The Diocese also invites all its members to dedicate time in prayer with the intention that God will send us a faithful and effective Bishop. Emmanuel invites you in particular to thank our parishioner Bill Techau, who served on the Profile Committee.

Taking Faith Home

Parish Calendar

IN A PASTORAL EMERGENCY - If you or a family member are in the hospital or have another personal emergency, please let the clergy know; they are ready to visit or assist. If the office is closed, please leave the information (including which hospital) in one of their personal office voicemail boxes or on a home phone. Emmanuel can also arrange to have meals provided; just ask!

SCHEDULE INFORMATION -
Emmanuel's ministry staff seek health for both themselves and the parish culture by taking regular time off. MOTHER BETH is off on Fridays. MARISA CROFTS is off on Mondays. DEACON CHRIS is in the office Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. Voice mail may be left in their boxes at any time.

OFFICE HOURS -
The church office is open roughly 9-11 weekday mornings currently, as well as by appointment. At other times our staff will continue fulfilling all their ministry responsibilities from home, including actively responding to email and phone messages.
