Texas Power Grid:
Most Texan know more about Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) and the Public Utility Commissioner (PUC) because of the February 2021 power outages. In the Houston Chronicle article linked below, state Rep. Drew Darby discussed the 2005 project known as CREZ, which stands for Competitive Renewable Energy Zones. The new construction of statewide high voltage transmission lines (HVTLs) into ERCOT were completed in early 2014. This article reports: “Until more transmission projects come online, ERCOT must continue to turn away West Texas renewable power from the grid.” If so, this could result in a path for transmission line companies to build more HVTLs to add needed capacity.
